Corgi Spitfire MK XIV - 91 Sqn RAF, Flt. Lt. H. D. Johnson, West Malling, July 1944 (AA38701) The introduction of the powerful 2, 035hb Griffon engined Spitfire MK XIV saw a performance improvement at all altitudes over the earlier Merlin engined variants. It gave the Spitfire a significant advantage over the German FW190A and it also made it ideal for tackling the menace of the V1 buzz bomb flying bombs. No. 91 Sqn, based at West Malling, achieved the best record against the flying bomb, shooting down 184 with its Mk XIVs. One of the Squadrons most successful pilots during the V1 campaign was Flt. Lt. H. D. Johnny Johnson. In total he claimed 13.5 destroyed with his first, shared, kill being in a Spitfire Mk XIV RB188 on 23rd June 1944. He brought down a further four V1s in the same aircraft which bore the distinctive nose art of a naked lady riding a V1. RB188 later served with 130 and 350 Sqns in Europe and was transferred to Thailand after the War. This limited edition model from Corgi is part of the highly collectable Aviation Archive range of die-cast model aircraft. Douglas DC-3 – BEA (British European Airways) (London Heathrow Airport - 1959) (AA38202) British European Airways (BEA) was officially formed on 1st April 1946 with aircraft leased from BOAC. On 1st February 1947, various other airliners were taken over resulting in the first of BEA’s DC-3s being operated from Northolt, before the airline moved to Heathrow. The venerable DC-3 (perhaps better known as the Dakota) was the mainstay of BEA from when the first was purchased in 1946 until the mid-1950s, remaining in service until the last was withdrawn on 19th May 1962. In all, some 70 DC-3s were leased or owned by BEA including G-AHCZ, which was a MkIII built in Oklahoma City and delivered to BOAC in 1946. It was transferred to BEA in 1947 and named ‘Charles Samson’, becoming a ‘Pionair’ Class DC-3 with modifications including an air-stair door. It flew the last BEA service between Northolt and Jersey in 1954 and was transferred to Cambrian Airways in 1959. Corgi WWII Messerschmitt Bf-110G-4 G9, 12NJG1 - Oberlieutant Wolfgang Schnaufer, St. Trond, Feb 1994 The Messerschmitt Bf110 served in the early rounds of the war. The aircrafts lack of agility in the air was exposed as its primary weakness during the Battle of Britain, when some Bf110 equipped units were withdrawn from the battle after very heavy losses and redeployed as night fighters, a role to which the aircraft was well suited. The Bf110 enjoyed a successful period following the defeat over Britain as an air superiority fighter and strike aircraft. Later in the war it was changed further to night fighter operations, and it became the major night fighter type of the Luftwaffe.Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer (16th February 1922 - 15th July 1950) is considered one of the top night fighter Luftwaffe aces of all time. All his 121 victories recorded in just 164 combat missions were scored at night and he was nicknamed The Night Ghost of St. Trond. His victory total includes 114 RAF bombers; accounting for more RAF casualties than any other Luftwaffe ace and becoming the third highest Luftwaffe claimant against the Western Allied Forces

Corgi Fokker DVII - Jasta 4, Ltn Ernst Udet, June 1918 (AA38902) After rejection by the German Army for being too small, Ernst Udet volunteered as a motorcycle dispatch rider before realising his dream of joining the German Air Service in 1915. Initially an observer, Udet became a pilot achieving 62 victories and commanding Jastas 4, 11 and 37. His awards included the ‘Iron Cross’ and ‘Blue Max’. This Fokker DVII is from Jasta 4 and wears one of Udet’s more colourful schemes. The inscription ‘LO!’ on the fuselage is in honour of his girlfriend and the ‘Du Doch Nicht!!’ on the tail roughly translates to ‘Surely Not You!!’ a taunt to opponents. Ironically, Udet had to make his escape from this plane using one of the newly introduced ‘Heinecke’ parachutes. After the war Udet became a stunt and race flyer. In 1934 he accepted a role within the recently formed Luftwaffe and was promoted to Generaloberst in 1940. He soon fell from favour being made a scapegoat for various Luftwaffe failures including defeat in the Battle of Britain and Udet felt pressured enough to commit suicide in November 1941. This limited edition model from Corgi is part of the highly collectable Aviation Archive range of die-cast model aircraft. Scales include 1:48, 1:72 and 1:144 and features aeroplanes from World War I, World War II and the modern era. Most models in the Aviation Archive range are limited editions.

He amassed a total of fifty-seven victories and was awarded the VC for ‘conspicuous bravery, exceptional perseverance and a high devotion to duty’. In mid-1917 Captain McCudden was appointed Flight Commander of 56 Sqn flying SE5As. McCudden scored thirty-two victories in SE5A B4891, which he flew from December 1917 until March 1918 when he left 56 Sqn. He fitted the aircraft with the spinner from a LVG C.V which he had shot down and it was claimed it increased the top speed of the aircraft by 3mph. On 9th July 1918 McCudden was tragically killed when a new SE5a he was flying, stalled shortly after takeoff and crashed. He was just 23 years old. Corgi Douglas C-47A Skytrain USAF 86th Air Base Group (Neubiberg, Germany, October 1948, Berlin Airlift) (AA38201) During the Berlin Airlift, the United States Air Force 86th Tactical Fighter Wing at Neubiberg air base in West Germany operated a C- 47 Skytrain support aircraft. On 22nd October 1948, as a gift for the children of Berlin, the C-47 was used to fly 7, 000lb (3, 175kg) of confectionery, along with a baby camel called ‘Clarence’ into Tempelhof airport in the US sector of Berlin. The camel was the mascot of the 525th Fighter Squadron based at Neubiberg and had been bought by a member of the squadron in Tripoli for $50 and shipped to Germany in the bomb bay of a B-26 Invader bomber. When Berlin was besieged the base personnel decided to present both the camel and the sweets to the children as a gesture of goodwill for Christmas. Captain William Mayes Fry served in the infantry before transferring to the RFC in December 1915. By the time he joined 23 Sqn late in 1917 he was already a veteran with experience in Morane-Saulnier and Nieuport fighters. On 4th January 1918 he scored his first Spad XIII kill when he downed an Albatros DV and on 23rd January he was flying aircraft B6847 when he shot down another Albatros in flames over the Houthhulst Forest. Fry finished the war with eleven kills and went on to become a wing leader in the post-war RAF. After retiring he returned to wartime service for the duration of WWII from 1939 to 1945. Corgi Trackside GUY Big J Tipper - Amey Roadstone Launched in 1964 the Big J was ‘Guy Motors’ last range of trucks before the company was taken over by Jaguar – which is why it received its name the ‘Big J’. Later in the 1950s they were supplying the gravel for the London to Birmingham section of the M1 motorway. In 1972 the company was taken over by Hanson and was renamed Amey Roadstone Construction but in 1989 it changed names once more when the company returned to private ownership and became Amey again.

Corgi WWII Ju 87R Stuka - Capitano Raul Zucconi, 208a Squadriglia, 101 Gruppo, Regia Aeronautica - Sicily June 1941 In 1940 the Regia Aeronautica of Italy, negotiated the purchase of JU87 ‘Stukas’ from its Axis ally Germany to replace its own SM85 divebombers that had been declared unsuitable for combat operations. During July 1940, 15 Italian pilots arrived for intensive training on the JU87 at the Luftwaffe ‘Stuka’ training school in Graz, Austria with a similar number arriving the following month. The first batch of JU87s supplied were from existing Luftwaffe units so Italian emblems and insignia were painted over the original German markings. To further personalise their aircraft the ‘Stuka’ was re-named ‘Picchiatello’ by the Italian crews.

Corgi WWII Spitfire PR.XIX, PM361, RAF BattleOf Britain Memorial Flight, Coningsby, Lincs, 2009 Built in November 1945 as a high altitude photo reconnaissance aircraft with a Griffon 66 engine a pressurised cockpit, PM631 was too late to see operation service in the Second World War. She was delivered to the RAF in 1946 and issued to 203 Advanced Flying School in May 1949.Modified for meteorological work, she was flown with the Temperature and Humidity Monitoring (THUM) Flight based at Hooton Park and Woodvale. On 11th July 1957, in formation with Spitfires PS853 and PS915, the aircraft was flown to Biggin Hill to form the Historic Aircraft Flight which later developed into the BBMF. PM631 has remained in flying condition with the Flight and is the BBMFs longest serving aircraft, with 2008 having been her 51st year of continuous service. PM631 is painted as an early PRXIX of 541 Squadron which performed high altitude reconnaissance missions over the European theatre from 1944 to the end of the War. Appropriately, the 541 Squadron’s motto was Alone Above All.Spitfire PRXIXs were unarmed but could fly at 370mph at 40, 000 feet (with pressurised cockpits) and had a range of 1, 500 miles, demonstrating the incredible development potential of the original Spitfire design.

Corgi WWII Spitfire PRXIX - PS915 The Last - Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight, Coningsby, Lincs PS915 entered service just too late for the war, joining 541 Squadron at Benson in June 1945 before moving to the PR Development Unit to take part in tests of new cameras. Assigned to 2 Squadron at Wunsdorf in Germany she later flew strategic reconnaissance sorties in connection with the East/West divide of Europe. She was returned to the UK in 1951, moving to 9 MU at Cosford before joining the THUM Flight at Woodvale in 1954. In 1957, PS915 became a founder member of the Historic Aircraft Flight, the forerunner of the BBMF, but was quickly retired to gate-guardian duties, serving in that capacity for nearly 30 years at West Malling, Leuchars and Brawdy. She re-joined the BBMF in 1987 after being modified to take an ex-Shackleton Griffon 58 engine and refurbished to flying condition by British Aerospace (Warton Division).PS915 currently wears the colour scheme and markings of PS888, a PRXIX of 81 Squadron based at Seletar in Singapore during the Malaya Campaign. This aircraft conducted the last ever operational sortie by an RAF Spitfire when, on 1 April 1954, it flew a photographic mission over an area of jungle in Johore thought to contain hideouts for Communist guerrillas. For the occasion the aircraft’s ground crew painted the inscription ‘The Last!’ on the left engine cowling. The longevity of the Spitfire design is evident, as the aircraft type which first entered service in 1938 was still serving operationally with the RAF 16 years later despite rapid developments in the performance of military aircraft during that time.
Corgi WWII Me110C -4-ZG52, Charleville, France, 1940 The Messerschmitt Bf110 was a twin engine heavy fighter known to the Luftwaffer as the Zerstorer (Destroyer). It proved devastatingly effective during the early months of the Second World War, as the Luftwaffe swept through Poland, Norway and France, where its high speed and concentrated firepower made it the ideal support aircraft for bombing raids into enemy territory. The aircrafts lack of agility in the air was its main weakness and this was exposed during the Battle of Britain when the Zerstorer pilots come up against the well organised Spitfires and Hurricanes of the RAF. They were easy prey for the British fighters and suffered such heavy losses that some BG110 units were withdrawn from the battle and redeployed as night fighters - a role which was far better suited to the aircraft.
Corgi Toys Hurricane and Stuka The Corgi Stuka and Hurricane Twin Pack are diecast model planes in the Corgi Toy range. These diecast aircraft models are from the Corgi Aircraft Collection and is one of a set of lots of planes that can be collected and displayed together.
Corgi WWII Dornier D0215 B-5 Kauz III, Stab II/NJG 2, Leeuwarden, Summer 1942 The Do215 began life as a re-designated version of the Do17 intended for export. The Swedish Government ordered 18 DO215A-1 bombers but before any were delivered an embargo was placed on their export and they were instead modified for use by the Luftwaffe as reconnaissance aircraft. The Do215 retained the pencil-like fuselage of the Do17, nicknamed the Flying Pencil but featured 2 in-line Daimler Benz engines giving a marked improvement in performance. The Dornier Do215 B-5 Kauz III was a dedicated night fighter featuring IR searchlight in the nose, FuG 202 Lichtenstein BC radar, 2 x 7.62mm machine guns in the upper nose and 2 x 20mm MG FF cannons on the lower nose. The aircraft modelled was the personal machine of Gruppenkommandeur Helmut Lent and served with Stab II/NJG 2, in Leeuwarden during the summer of 1942.
Corgi VanguardsTalbot Sunbeam - Metropolitan Police By the late 1970s, hatchbacks were becoming the norm but they were also mainly front wheel drive. This layout was viewed with suspicion by some Police Forces as the technology used at the time did not lend itself to the very high mileage high impact use the Police gave their vehicles, especially in London. Chrysler UK created the Sunbeam in 1977 as a quick-to-market stop-gap, by grafting a hatchback body on to the floorpan of the, by then, seven year old rear wheel drive Avenger. This combination of hatchback practicality and simple rear wheel drive reliability made the Sunbeam a successful Metropolitan Police car.
Corgi WWII Bristol Blenheim MKI, 211 Sqn RAF Paramythia Greece, 1940 In April 1938, 211 Sqn embarked for the Middle East. It undertook its first operations in June 1940 against Italian targets in Libya and continued until November 1940 when the squadron was sent to assist the Greeks following the Italian invasion of that country. The CO was Sqn Ldr J. Gordon-Finlayson (The Bish) flying Blenheim L8511. This aircraft was badly damaged in action and made a forced landing. The crew were reported missing, but were in fact marooned on an island. Days later after and eventful journey they returned. For this action, The Bish was awarded the DFC.Very soon after he was back in the air in L6670, a replacement aircraft transferred from 84 Sqn. Shortly afterwards, on 2nd December, he flew L6670 to attack Valona harbour and returned safely despite damage to the aircraft caused by defending enemy fighters. He continued to fly throughout the winter in what were extremely difficult weather conditions, over mountainous terrain. In March 1941 The Bish was awarded the DSO and promoted to Wing Commander.
Corgi Vanguards Vauxhall Nova Sport 1300cc - Group A Scottish & National Rally Champioship 1987, Colin McRae And Derek Ringer Colin McRae was Britain’s most successful rally driver, winning the World Championship in 1995 and taking victory in 25 World Championship events. Colin’s flamboyant, sideways driving style, whether on the snows of Sweden, the rocky unforgiving roads of the Acropolis or on the ultimate challenge through the Sahara on the Dakar, endeared him to fans and rivals around the world.
Triumph TR4 - Signal Red The TR4’s gestation was slowed by too many ambitious plans that ultimately proved to be distractions, the most obvious being the ‘Sabrina’ twin-cam TRS, which was originally to have been the basis for Triumph’s new sports car. When finally launched in 1961, the TR4 used a modified version of the TR3s well proven 88 inch wheelbase chassis, but with a wider track, new rack and pinion steering, and the previously optional 147cc larger engine. Its smart new Michelotti designed body was much more civilised than its predecessor’s and featured wind up windows, a very efficient fresh air ventilation system and Triumph’s unique removable ‘Surrey Top’.
Corgi Vanguards Vauxhall Nova 1.3SR - Jamaica Yellow From 1983 until the GTE’s launch in 1988 the SR was the quickest Nova in the range and featured stiffer suspension, 3-spoke alloy wheels, sports seats, a 5-speed gearbox and a new 1.3-litre OHC engine. It was a quick, attractive, and economical proposition when launched at just £4, 975 and stacked up well against competition such as the MG Metro which cost a similar amount but only had a 4-speed gearbox. The Nova, especially in insurance friendly 1.3SR form, became the cult car of the 1990s Max Power movement and this, combined with their popularity in various forms of amateur motorsport, has made them surprisingly rare today.
Corgi Vanguards Triumph TR4 - 1962 Alpine Rally, 1st in Class, Mike Sutcliffe and Roy Fidler The TR4 started its international rally career on the 1962 Tulip Rally, where three of the now famous ‘VC’ cars achieved 2nd, 3rd and 4th in class. For the Alpine, just a month later, these same cars were lightened and fitted with larger 2.2-litre engines, which had high lift camshafts and tubular manifolds, improving the cars’ power to weight ratio by around 22%. Three of the four cars finished, coming 1st, 2nd and 3rd in class. The car modelled, 4 VC, won the under 2.5-litre class, finished 4th overall and won a coveted ‘Coupe des Alpes’.
Triumph entered three Spitfires for the 1964 Alpine Rally, the car’s rally debut. All were fitted with aluminium panels, Vitesse close-ratio gearboxes, hardtops, and aluminium cylinder heads. Initially they performed well, however a car driven by a Belgian tourist crashed into Jean-Jacques Thuner and John Gretener’s car, whilst Roy Fidler and Don Grimshaw’s blew its engine, leaving only Terry Hunter and Patrick Lier. They had an almost perfect rally, however, they were held a little too long at the Entreveux service halt and the team then slightly underestimated a section time, meaning the pair missed out on a coveted ‘Coupe des Alpes’ by one minute.
Corgi Vanguards Subaru Legacy RS Turbo Series1 - Black The launch of the Legacy in February 1989 ushered in a new era for Subaru. Previously a maker of quirky but tough well engineered cars, marketed on their heritage of aircraft engineering excellence, the Legacy was a larger, faster, and more luxurious product than any previous Subaru. The Legacy’s new four cylinder EJ boxer engines may have retained their traditional layout but were an all new design which would go on to power the Impreza to World Rally Championship glory. However, Subaru’s first ever WRC win was achieved on the 1993 New Zealand Rally by a Legacy driven by Colin McRae and Derek Ringer.
Although often associated with Vauxhall, Gerry Marshall won two 1978 Production Saloon Championships in the Triumph Dolomite Sprint modelled here. He debuted the car on March 5th 1978 at Brands Hatch and raced it twenty-eight times during the season; winning three races outright and scoring an amazing twenty-five class victories. The Marshall/Sprint combination was so dominant in 1978 that during a race at Donington he came into the pits only to tell his worried crew that he had “…stopped to let the rest catch up a bit”, before storming out of the pits to score another win.

Corgi Vanguards Ford Transit MK1 Disel The now common epithet white van man is popularly acknowledged as being invented by BBC Radio 2s early morning presenter Sarah Kennedy during the mid-1990s. Vans have been produced in white for many years because it’s cheaper and facilitates the sign writing. Although not all white vans are Fords, the word Transit has become a metonym for van, and justifiably so as over 6 million have been sold since 1965. Ironically it was only named Transit at the last minute when Ford UK Chairman Bill Batty saw the word on a German bound pilot-build vehicle and knew he had found the new vehicles name. This cheeky little interpretation of a white van in not an un-common sight on our roads, the British weather is perfect for mucking up our cars and vans and encouraging another type of sign writing, "Clean Me!", "Wot no sponge" are just a couple of the slogans this model is decorated in.

Corgi Vanguards Ford Sierra RS Cosworth - Diamond White The original Sierra RS Cosworth caused a sensation when it was launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1983 and, when deliveries finally commenced almost a year later, lucky buyers realized it was if anything even better than the hype. Designed with Group A motorsport in mind, meaning at least 5, 000 examples had to be produced for homologation, Ford were initially caught out by the enormous demand for a car which, though ferociously quick, was also a docile, comfortable and practical, family car, as happy in traffic as on the race track. Superseded in some roles by the 1100 range, with which it shared its engine, the A40 continued to be used in Mk2 form because of its capacious storage and the ease with which equipment, carried by some branches of the force, could be reached through the Countryman’s opening rear window. Although styled in Italy the A40 was engineered and produced at Austin’s headquarters at Longbridge, on the outskirts of Birmingham, meaning the force was supporting their local manufacturer. The model features chrome detail, detailed interior, photo-etched wipers and roof light.

However, Citroën and their protégés Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena had already competed in some events during the previous year and had looked impressive. In the season opening Monte Carlo Rally, Loeb, something of a specialist in this event, outpaced his two much more experienced team mates leaving McRae second, in the car modelled here, and Sainz third to complete an all Citroën podium.
