Triumph TR4
- Signal Red The TR4’s gestation was slowed by too many ambitious plans that ultimately proved to be distractions, the most obvious being the ‘ Sabrina’ twin-cam TRS, which was originally to have been the basis for Triumph’s new sports car. When finally launched in 1961, the TR4 used a modified version of the TR3s well proven 88 inch wheelbase chassis, but with a wider track, new rack & pinion steering, & the previously optional 147cc larger engine. Its smart new Michelotti designed body was much more civilised than its predecessor’s & featured wind up windows, a very efficient fresh air ventilation system & Triumph’s unique removable ‘ Surrey Top’.
