Although often associated with Vauxhall, Gerry Marshall won two 1978 Production Saloon Championships in the Triumph Dolomite Sprint modelled here. He debuted the car on March 5th 1978 at Brands Hatch & raced it twenty-eight times during the season; winning three races outright & scoring an amazing twenty-five class victories. The Marshall/ Sprint combination was so dominant in 1978 that during a race at Donington he came into the pits only to tell his worried crew that he had “…stopped to let the rest catch up a bit”, before storming out of the pits to score another win. ...

Triumph entered three Spitfires for the 1964 Alpine Rally, the car’s rally debut. All were fitted with aluminium panels, Vitesse close-ratio gearboxes, hardtops, & aluminium cylinder heads. Initially they performed well, however a car driven by a Belgian tourist crashed into Jean-Jacques Thuner & John Gretener’s car, whilst Roy Fidler & Don Grimshaw’s blew its engine, leaving only Terry Hunter & Patrick Lier. They had an almost perfect rally, however, they were held a little too long at the Entreveux service halt & the team then slightly underestimated a section time, meaning the pair missed out on a coveted ‘ Coupe des Alpes’ by one minute. ...

Corgi WWII Bristol Blenheim MKI, 211 Sqn RAF Paramythia Greece, 1940 In April 1938, 211 Sqn embarked for the Middle East. The CO was Sqn Ldr J. Gordon-Finlayson (The Bish) flying Blenheim L8511. This aircraft was badly damaged in action & made a forced landing. The crew were reported missing, but were in fact marooned on an isl&. Days later after & eventful journey they returned. For this action, The Bish was awarded the DFC. Very soon after he was back in the air in L6670, a replacement aircraft transferred from 84 Sqn. Shortly afterwards, on 2nd December, he flew L6670 to attack Valona harbour & returned safely despite damage to the aircraft caused by defending enemy fighters. He continued to fly throughout the winter in what were extremely difficult weather conditions, over mountainous terrain. In March 1941 The Bish was awarded the DSO & promoted to Wing Commander. ...

Corgi WWII Dornier D0215 B-5 Kauz III, Stab II/NJG 2, Leeuwarden, Summer 1942 The Do 215 began life as a re-designated version of the Do 17 intended for export. The Swedish Government ordered 18 DO215A-1 bombers but before any were delivered an embargo was placed on their export & they were instead modified for use by the Luftwaffe as reconnaissance aircraft. The Do 215 retained the pencil-like fuselage of the Do 17, nicknamed the Flying Pencil but featured 2 in-line Daimler Benz engines giving a marked improvement in performance. The Dornier Do 215 B-5 Kauz III was a dedicated night fighter featuring IR searchlight in the nose, Fu G 202 Lichtenstein BC radar, 2 x 7.62mm machine guns in the upper nose & 2 x 20mm MG FF cannons on the lower nose. The aircraft modelled was the personal machine of Gruppenkommandeur Helmut Lent & served with Stab II/NJG 2, in Leeuwarden during the summer of 1942. ...

Corgi Vanguards Triumph TR4 - Signal Red (VA11500)

Triumph TR4 - Signal Red The TR4’s gestation was slowed by too many ambitious plans that ultimately proved to be distractions, the most obvious being the ‘Sabrina’ twin-cam TRS, which was originally to have been the basis for Triumph’s new sports car. When finally launched in 1961, the TR4 used a modified version of the TR3s well proven 88 inch wheelbase chassis, but with a wider track, new rack and pinion steering, and the previously optional 147cc larger engine. Its smart new Michelotti designed body was much more civilised than its predecessor’s and featured wind up windows, a very efficient fresh air ventilation system and Triumph’s unique removable ‘Surrey Top’.
