two-seat civilian
biplanes had grown so
popular in England that

prototype of the DH 82
Tiger Moth made its debut
flight on October 26,
1931. The Royal Air Force
took notice and began
using Tiger Moths for
elementary pilot
training. By the end of
World War II, de
Havilland had delivered
more than 4, 200 to the
RAF. About 3, 000 more
were built in Australia,
Canada and New Zealand
for Commonwealth Air
Training. Eventually,
over 8, 700 de Havilland
DH 82 Tiger Moths would
be manufactured. Of them,
more than 250 are still
considered airworthy.*
