Windy Day by Regan Purcell Quilting blows the clouds away, whatever the weather! A sparkling marbled navy fabric inspired this wall hanging, part of a glittering bundle found on a stall at the NEC in 2007. Reminding Regan of ‘rainy umbrellas’, she used silver on white for the clouds, and greys for the skies. The grey was a variegated fabric with streaks across it. Regan highlighted it with straight stitching in silver thread along the grain, to indicate rain showers. This is a great technique for adding something extra special to your fabrics. A rainy day has never looked so good! Finished size: 35cm x 71cm (14 x 28) Skill Level: Intermediate This project is an extract from Popular Patchwork magazine first published in June 2008. Schools Out by Regan Purcell Recycle old uniforms to make this cheerful memory quilt! Inspired by the new Green wadding, Regan wanted to make a quilt that was 100% recycled. When her youngest child moved on to secondary school she came up with the idea of making a quilt from the now no longer needed primary school uniforms to celebrate her family passing into their teenage years. A quilt like this would be a lovely memento for any school leaver or make a very personal present for a retiring teacher. Once completed, you could let the children go mad with permanent pens to add their greetings on the back of the quilt, if you dare!
