Pat’s journal quilt does not have a theme to it, beyond a love of playing with the twin needle technique. You could adapt this technique to your own journal quilt theme. For example, you could cut different shapes from the twin needled silk rather than squares, such as circles or leaves. Your stitching need not be in straight lines. You can also use the colour to affect the mood of your journal quilt. Think about what you are trying to convey to your viewers and just enjoy experimenting with the technique – how far can you take it? This project is an extract from Popular Patchwork magazine first published in June 2009. It is a Digital Edition and comes as a downloadable PDF file.
