Officially presented at the opening of FIAT's Mirafiori plant in May 1939, the AB 40 was, at the time, something of a cutting-edge vehicle. Thanks to innovative solutions such as double drive and spare wheels mounted as neutral to help get over obstacles, it was a match for any foreign rival in the same class. The AB 41 version, introduced in 1941, included several improvements, yet its main weapon (a 20 mm Breda 35 cannon) remained the same.Scale 1:72
The model 42 Desert Vehicle was developed for the Italian Army based on the chassis and mechanics of the AB 41 armoured car. Over the course of the operations on the African front, the need arose for a reconnaissance vehicle specially adapted to the desert conditions, where driving on sand required particular features that were not present on the currently available vehicles. The engineers eliminated the dual running direction typical of the AB 41 and the four-wheel drive. Several dozen of these vehicles were produced; after the fall of the African front, the remaining AS 42s were re-deployed in Italy, ending their career in the police force in the 1950s.Scale 1:72
This armoured scout car was produced in the 1930s for the German Army. Only a limited number were ever produced, yet the experience gained with these vehicles made them a valuable stepping stone towards the development of later models. The 231 was used right up until the early stages of the Second World War when it was replaced by more modern, efficient armoured cars. It featured a three-axis chassis with twinned rear wheels, light armour and a 2 cm cannon.Scale 1:72
The AB 43 armoured car is an evolution from the previous AB 40 and 41 models. Equipped with a new larger turret, its main weapon was the 20MM calibre Breda 35, with a co-axial 8MM machine gun. Unfortunately the AB 43 never entered into service with the Italian army as its production was only started in 1944 under the control of the German forces, which had occupied the Italian industry following the armistice in September 1943. These vehicles were distributed to many German units operating at the Italian front. They were used particularly for controls and by the police in the northern regions, which was subject to great partisan resistance. The few examples that survived were used by the police to maintain public order after the war.Scale 1:72
This self propelled anti-tank was built by the Germans in 1942 in order to face the dangerous, new Russiantanks and to equip their own anti-tank units with a mobile vehicle. Same body as the German Pz 38 (t). Theturret was substitute by a fixed superstructure which incorporated a 75mm Pak 40 gun. Motor and interiorequipment remained unchanged and therefore the vehicle was very high, while the gunners were in a ratherexposed position. From 1943 to 1944 were a total of 975 units built. Widely used in Tunisia, Russia andItaly. Remained in service with Panzerjaegerabt, on the infantry, Panzergrenadier and armoured divisionsuntil the end of 1944.Pre Sale Due In November
This version of the armored car M-8 was developed in 1944 to supply the U.S. Forces with a fast, all-terrain reconnaissance vehicle. The M-20 was practically identical to the previous vehicle, but was deprived of the 37 mm gun (inadequate to confront German tanks) and served to escort infantry units. Both versions participated in all final phases of World War II. The French army used them extensively during the following years.Scale 1:72
Recommended Age: 8+The "female" version of the MkI tank was produced in larger numbers than its "male" partner due to the fact theat the four Vickers machine guns mounted on the sides were found to be more effective in combat than the heavier guns carried by the "male" in the treacherous conditions on the Western Front. The British Army soon learnt how effective these new weapons could be in both attack and in protecting advancing troops using the tank as a shield.Recommended Humbrol paints:72 Khaki Drill 53 Gunmetal 66 Olive Drab 83 Ochre Product SpecificationNumber of Parts 69Dimensions (mm) 102 x 22Skill Level 1Requires Painting YesAirfix - WW1 Female tankPart No: A02337Scale: 1/72thBrand: AIRFIX
