Dragon has produced a new
1/48 scale kit of the
Ta152. This particular
kit is of the Ta152C-0,
which was a
pre-production aircraft.
Although only one
prototype was built,
this kit from Dragon
means it is now available
to all modelers. The kit
includes brand new wings,
plus a new engine and
radiator cowling. These
new parts, as well as
highly detailed elements
for the rest of the
aircraft, are accurately
detailed and
dimensionally
correct.There were three
different versions
planned, with the Ta152C
designed for
lower-altitude operations
and ground attack. Thus
it had a different engine
and smaller wings than
the Ta152H and Ta152E.
Interestingly, the name
was changed from Fw to Ta
to reflect the important
influence paid by
designer Kurt Tank. The
first Ta152H entered
service in January 1945,
and with only a little
over 40 production
aircraft, it had minimal
impact on the result of
WWII. Because of the rush
to get the aircraft into
production, insufficient
time was allotted to its
development, leading to
teething problems. This
is an exciting kit of a
novel aircraft, and for
modelers wanting a
late-war interceptor,
this Ta152C-0 from Dragon

The seizure of the
northern Russian city of
Leningrad (now Saint
Petersburg) seemed to be
a foregone conclusion for
the German military. They
even prematurely printed
invitations to their
victory celebration in
one of the city’s
hotels. However, the
Siege of Leningrad,
which began on 9
September 1941, was
finally broken 872 days
later on 27 January 1944.
The Germans were never
able to capture the city,
which held out thanks to
a supply route via Lake
Lagoda, a tenuous water
connection that froze in
winter to form a land
bridge. This vital route
was known as the Road of

Monte Cassino will be
forever engraved in
history as the site of
intense fighting during
WWII. The Battle for
Cassino in fact comprised
four separate battles
fought between 17 January
and 19 May 1944. German
troops were defending the
Gustav Line, while
Allied troops were
seeking to breakthrough
in order to move north
and capture Rome. The
Allied force included
American, British, Free
French, Canadian,
Polish, Indian and New
Zealand troops, all of
whom had a crack at
breaking the German
defense in the town of
Monte Cassino and
clearing the historic
Benedictine abbey perched
high up on a peak. The
bloody conflagration
resulted in 54, 000
Allied and 20, 000 German
casualties before the
Allies finally succeeded
in capturing the Italian
town. This cosmopolitan
kit is unprecedented in
Dragon figure sets, for
it features three head
options for each of the
four plastic figures. The
figures are shown in
action poses as they
advance through the
rubble of ruined Monte
Cassino in a brave
assault, with figure
details sharply defined
and molded. Commonwealth
subjects are often
overlooked by kit

This new 1/35 figure set
from Dragon is very neat
as we might expect, and
as ever I really like the
artwork they put on their
boxes. As the title says,
it is set in 1943, in
Yugoslavia, so a mid-war
setting. It has 3 German
soldiers, and in a mix
of uniforms with both a
plain jacket along with 2
others in camouflage
smocks. All three are
wearing ankle boots and
gaiters rather than
Jackboots. The fourth
figure is a bit more
unusual simply for being
an Italian trooper,
complete with feather
cockade on the side of
his helmet, and equally
naturally, armed with
Italian weapons.You can
see the parts breakdown
from the pictures of the
sprues below, and I
guess my favourite
element, on one of the 4
smaller weapons sprues
that come in the box,
are the Italian guns. In
this case a Breda Model
1930 light machine gun,
a Baretta Model 1938A
sub-machine gun and a
Mannlicher-Parravicino-Carcano
Modello 91 rifle. Even
the choices for the
German weaponry include a
Kar 98K with or without a
bayonet fitted, an MG34
and a Bergmann MP28
sub-machine gun. Whatever
you choose to use,
you'll have a couple of
spares left over for
putting in a vehicle or
