In May of 1944 the USAF cancelled its B-35 programme, foreseeing the inadequacy of this bomber in thefuture. At the same time, however, it authorised the completion of two of these to be modified and fit withjet propulsion engines. The first YB-49 took flight on October 21, 1947 powered by eight Allison J35turbojets, which, in the end, were not very reliable. The many problems notwithstanding, the YB-49 didshow promise, with the exception of its autonomy factor, reduced due to the high fuel consumption of thatgeneration’s engines. One of its great advantages was something that in those days was not considered veryimportant: the fact that the YB-49 often disappeared from the radar screens because of its weak marking. The problem which eventually signed the fate of this promising aircraft was the excessively thick airfoilsection which limited its cruising speed, just when this factor seemed to be the most important qualityneeded for a combat airplane.New Release
This U.S. Navy aircraft was one of the most famous and reliable air-planes of World War II. It replaced its predecessor, the standard Navy fighter Wildcat, which did not match the Japanese fighter Zero. The Hellcat, first introduced in 1943 was a highly manoeuvrable aircraft despite its extensive dimensions. The robust fuselage of this carrier-borne plane was able to absorb substantial damage. Hellcats were also utilized by the British Navy and after World War II, during the fifties, by the French Forces in Indochina.Scale 1:72
The idea of installing a Junkers Jumo 213A engine (until then mainly used on bombers) in a Focke-Wulf 190 airframe was born of a need to improve the high altitude performance of the aircraft: the A and F versions, in fact, suffered a significant drop in speed above 7, 000m. Armed with two 20mm cannon and two 13mm guns, the D-9 was immediately a favourite with pilots, who considered it an aircraft equal to the P-51 Mustang. In its secondary role as a ground strike aircraft, the Dora 9 performed excellently during Operation Bodenplatte, the last stand of the 3rd Reich in the Ardennes. About 650-700 D versions are thought to have been made, of which four still exist today.Scale 1:72

This big but very manoeuvrable twin-engine assault aircraft is specialized in anti-tank warfare, and has been in service with the U.S. Forces for about 20 years. It has thus been the backbone of the ground support units. The A-10 is well known for the exceptionally sturdy fuselage and its powerful 30mm gun, which has the power to destroy enemy tanks. These features were demonstrated during the Gulf War in 1991. The aircraft is also used for surveillance and scout tasks for other Air Force Units.Scale 1:72
The Curtiss P-40 was undoubtedly one of the most controversial fighters to serve in quantity during the Second World War. It was praised and abused, lauded and vilified, but the fact remains that, as the first American single-seat fighter to be manufactured on a mass-production basis, it bore much of the brunt of the air warfare over several battle fronts. Its performance was inferior to the performances of the majority of its antagonists, but this shortcoming was partly compensated for by its tractability and its sturdiness which enabled it to withstand a considerable amount of punishment. It was amenable to adaptation and it was available when most sorely needed.
The most famous P-51 Mustang fighter plane had its debut in 1942 with the Royal Air Force. It was supplied by the United States to the Allies to combat the Axis Forces. This first version was equipped with an Allison engine, but was no match for the enemy Bf-109 or FW-190 fighters. It was the base for the subsequent versions which were equipped with Rolls-Royce engines. This first P-51 served honorably in the U.S. Air Force in the Mediterranean and Far East operations.Scale 1:72

The Italeri Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk in 1:72 scale from the plastic aircraft model range accurately recreates the real life US made unamanned airial vehicle. This plastic aircraft kit requires paint and glue to complete. In role and design, the Northrop Grumman Global Hawk is similar to the famous U-2, the venerable 1950s spy plane. The Global Hawk is able to provide high resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) that can penetrate cloud-cover and sandstorms, and electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) imagery at long range that allows it to survey as much as 40, 000 square miles (100, 000 square kilometres) of terrain a day. The Global Hawk can fly a distance of 22, 236 km, at a height of 19, 812 metres above the ground and at a speed of about 740 km/h, and has an endurance of 35 hours. It has a wingspan of 35.3 metres, a length of 13.4 metres, a height of 4.6 metres, and a takeoff weight of about 12, 000kg with a load capacity of 907.20 kg. Global Hawk uses ground and satellite data links for sending images in real time to military stations when in the air, at sea, or on the ground. When the Global Hawk is programmed with the mission parameters, the UAV craft can position itself, take off and fly autonomously within the surveillance area, before then returning and landing. The maiden flight of the first Pe-8 prototype was in December 1936. With a wingspan of 39 m and length of 23 m the giant aircraft had a speed of up to 405 km/h. Carrying 2 000kg of bomb-load, the bomber could repulse attacks of enemy fighters by cannons and machine-gun fire. On the night of August 8, 1941, Pe-8 squadrons bombed Berlin for the first time. In the battle of Kursk the bombers were successfully used to bomb the Germany Army. Pe-8s were used for bombardments of Koenigsberg fortifications. The Pe-8 was the most perfect Soviet long-distance bomber. Only 93 aircraft were produced.
The MC202 Folgore was without doubt the best known Italian fighter of World War II. Based on the preceding MC200 which was no match for the allied fighters in North Africa, this aircraft featured excellent manoeuvrability and speed thanks to its aerodynamic shape and its powerful, German-designed engine.Altogether the number of Macchis produced and delivered was very limited due to the inadequate war effort of the Italian aircraft factories. The role of the MC202 during World War II was therefore very limited.Scale 1:72

The Hawker Hurricane is a British single-seat fighter aircraft that was designed and predominantly built by Hawker Aircraft Ltd. Some production of the Hurricane was carried out in Canada by the Canada Car and Foundry Co Ltd.The 1930s design evolved through several versions and adaptations, resulting in a series of aircraft which acted as interceptor-fighters, fighter-bombers (also called "Hurribombers"), and ground support aircraft. Further versions known as the Sea Hurricane had modifications which enabled operation from ships. Some were converted as catapult-launched convoy escorts, known as "Hurricats". Together with the Spitfire, the Hurricane was significant in enabling the Royal Air Force (RAF) to win the Battle of Britain of 1940, accounting for the majority of the RAF’s air victories. About 14, 000 Hurricanes were built by the end of 1944 (including about 1, 200 converted to Sea Hurricanes, and about 1, 400 built in Canada), and served in all the major theatres of the Second World War.

Italeri F-104 G Starfighter “Recce” (1296) The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter is one of the most famous fighters in the history of aviation and also one with the longest operational life: its history began at the end of the 50s and ended, for some air forces, in mid 2000s. Its unique airframe, with slender fuselage and very little wing surface, made this aircraft ideal as an interceptor. Thanks to the thrust of its General Electric J79-GE-11A afterburning turbojet engine, it could exceed Mach 2, 2 with an excellent rate of climb. But it wasn't very maneuverable and difficult to pilot. The F-104G Starfighter was produced on license by several European aviation industries. From the mid 60s, it became the standard interceptor for many NATO countries including Italy, Germany, Holland, Greece, and Turkey. The armament was basically the same found on previous versions, with a 20mm Vulcan cannon and the option to fit under the wings air-to-air missiles, bombs, or additional fuel tanks to increase the airplane's range. With time, reconnaissance duties were added to the traditional interceptor service. The F-104G was therefore fitted with a dedicated “Orpheus” reconnaissance external pod that gave excellent operational results. Scale: 1:72 MANUFACTURER: ITALERI PRODUCT CODE: 1296
