Fiat 642 RN2 Bartoletti Ferrari Racing Transporter (1957) in Red (1:18 scale) - The 1950s and 1960s are known as an era that witnessed a boom of race car transporters, which are being re-discovered today and held in a high regard. The two similar-looking transporters of the Scuderia Ferrari and Maserati might well be the most famous and technically most mature transporters of those days.
They were mounted on Fiat-bus chassis of the type 642 RN2. With an open body work designed by Bartoletti, the resultant transporter was good for hauling three race cars.
At first sight, those two transporters, equipped with a 92 hp diesel in-line-engine, look alike except for paintwork and decals. But upon a closer look, they differ in a considerable number of details. Back in those days, it took a transporter to haul race cars to the race track from time to time.
But transporters were not limited to hauling a precious freight only. They had quite a few other functions, too. In each of the transporters, a small but complete inspection bay was set up. It was also used as the crew quarters. This was where the head-quarters were located, in addition to providing a crew space and a sleeping berth during the hectic race weekends. Many crew members spent the majority of their time working in and around those race car transporters. It virtually became a second home for them.
Please note: This item does NOT include the race cars shown in the large picture.

Foden Steam Wagon 1922 (Whitbread and Co) in Brown (1:50 scale) - Edwin Foden Sons & Co Ltd was formed in 1887 and development work commenced on Foden"s idea of a superior steam wagon. By 1901 a design had been produced which was to set the standard for steam wagons for the next twenty-five years. The company developed successive ranges of highly successful steam wagons. They, and arch-rival Sentinel, practically monopolised the market.
The Foden "C" Type was the final design of the overtype (engine above boiler) Steam Wagon developed from earlier models. This wagon was introduced in the 1920s and had a double crank compound engine which developed 23 bhp at 450 rpm. It was fitted with spur gearing giving speeds up to 16 mph, but special gearing could be ordered which would enable the wagon to achieve 26 mph, double the permitted speed limit for such wagons.
Edwin Foden died on 31st August 1911, being succeeded by his sons William and E.R. (who later founded ERF). By the late 1920s it was becoming obvious that however excellent the product, steam was giving way to the internal combustion engine, and so a new era of Foden wagons started leaving steam behind.

AEC Regent RT852 JXN230 (1947) in Red (1:24 scale) - RT852 was the first example of the new RT3/1 body (with no roofboxes at all) and had been presented to the public at the Commercial Motor Exhibition at Earl"s Court in 1948.
In July 1948, the first delivery of RT3/1s was made to Dalston when they received a batch of 6. In October, to replace their ST"s on Routes 81, 116 and 117, Hounslow became the third garage to receive them when a batch of 16 was delivered, including RT852. Despite its brand new 3-bay layout to the front blind box, restricted blinds had to be used because none of the new format were available, when RT852 first entered service on Route 117.
Bedford OB Coach (Southdown Motor Services 1949) in Green (1:24 scale) - The Bedford OB was designed specifically for public transport, and was used by many large operators, as well as hundreds of the smaller operators during the 50"s and 60"s. Introduced in 1939, only 73 chassis were manufactured before production was stopped following the outbreak of World War II. Production resumed in October of 1945. The rear axle combined with the mounting of the engine, permitted a sunken central gangway for easier passenger access. In 1947 there were slight alterations made, the destination and fleet name boxes were modified to a more rounded edge.

- sliding roof and entrance door
- operating trafficators

- individually decorated seats, 27 or 29 configuration
- overhead luggage racks

Bedford OB Coach (Bridlington Coaches) in Cream and Blue (1:24 scale) - Introduced in August 1939, the Bedford OB chassis was designed specifically for public transport. The off-set differential on the rear axle combined with the mounting of the engine and the gearbox at a slight angle permitted a sunken, central gangway for easier passenger access. However two months later, following the outbreak of World War II, production was stopped after only 73 chassis had been manufactured. In January 1942, production of a more utilitarian version known as the OWB recommenced. In October 1945, production of the OB resumed and the Bedford OB chassis went on to play a major role in the re-equipping of many transport fleets as demand rose sharply. Over 40 different coach-builders used the chassis, but by far the biggest was the Hendon-based firm of Duple, whose Vista body was to become synonymous with the OB coach.
The Vista body underwent many changes during its life. Unlike the original pre-war and the first 46 post-war Duple Vistas, which had an entrance door that slid behind the main side body panel, the door on the following models slid open into an external recess. During 1947 the destination and fleet-name boxes were modified, a rounded outer edge replacing the earlier angular one.
In 1948, due to material shortages, the characteristic side “flash” was omitted and replaced by a single aluminium bead about 3 inches below the waistline, and the operator"s name plate box was removed from the rear. The original 4-spoked steering wheel was replaced by a 3-spoked version. In 1949, the side flash and the operator"s plate returned. Later that year, the luggage door locks, which had been operated by a T-key, were replaced by a single locking handle and the rear direction indicator lights were changed. The large chromed bumper over-riders were removed, a deeper rear bumper/body trim was added which incorporated the wording Bedford-Duple and a Duple motif was added to both sides of the 1950. As an option for sight-seeing services, quarter-lights in the roof were offered which necessitated different, tubular luggage racks.
All Sun Star models of the Bedford OB will be limited editions with numbered certificates and will feature:
- Opening bonnet with detailed engine
- Sliding roof and entrance door
- Operating trafficators
- Opening emergency door with First Aid kit
- Individually decorated seats, 27 or 29 configuration
- Overhead luggage racks
- Detailed dashboard and instruments
- Posable front wheels

AEC Regent RT1045 JXN73 (1948) in Green (1:24 scale) - Traditionally, AEC was London Transport"s major supplier of buses but, at the end of the war, it became apparent that they had insufficient capacity to meet the future demand. So, in the summer of 1946, Leyland Motors Ltd was approached to supply 1, 500 of its new standard 9.8 litre engine, 1, 000 for RT"s which would now be called RTL"s and the remaining 500 for RTW"s, the wider-bodied version.
AEC Regent II (Manfield District - Pleasley Colliery) in Green (1:76 scale) - In 1932 Mansfield District Traction Co Ltd replaced its fleet of trams with 34 AEC Regent IIs. A total of 56 were delivered before the war. A further 40 post war vehicles were fitted with 7.7 diesel engines, crash gearboxes, and carried Weymann H30/26R bodies. Number 126 modelled here was one of the last batch of 15 delivered in 1947. During the years of service the side destination box was panelled over, and successive repaints produced changes in livery style. It was one of the last Regent IIs to remain in service before being withdrawn in 1966. The bus was selected for preservation and now resides in the Midland Road Transport Gallery at the Midland Railway – Butterly. (http://www.midlandrailwaycentre.co.uk)
AEC Regent II (Liverpool Corporation) in Green (1:76 scale) - Liverpool Corporation received 100 AEC Regents between 1948 and 1947. These buses were generally similar to Liverpool’s pre-war Regents, hosting AEC 7.7 litre engines and crash gearboxes. The Weymann bodies were supplied as basic frames with the bodywork being completed by the Corporation’s own staff at its Edge Lane Works. A233 was delivered to Liverpool’s Carriage Road Garage in November 1946 and was renumbered to A433 in January 1957 to make way for new Regent V’s. It was withdrawn from service in January 1965, whereupon it was converted for use as a mobile workshop before being elected for preservation in 1972. Now part of the Merseyside Transport Trust Collection (http://www.mttrust.co.uk), restoration continues and hopes to be completed soon.
Dennis Dart SLF Pointer 1 (Trent Barton The Villager) in Yellow (1:76 scale) - Of the 54 Plaxton-bodied Dennis Darts in the Trent Barton fleet, 6 are branded in >villager> livery to work on the V1, V2 and V3 routes between Derby and Burton upon Trent. They are based at the Company’s Meadow Road depot in Derby.
The brand took its name from the villages served along the way, such as Findern, Willington, Repton, Etwall, Hilton, Tutbury and Stretton. It is very popular within these local communities who dubbed it ‘the sheep bus’ after its original livery. The unofficial soubriquet stuck so well that Trent Barton insisted on retaining the sheep imagery as a touch of humour when the new brand identity was commissioned from Ray Stenning this year. There are even sheep transfers on the ticket machines!
The >villager> Darts have been given a major makeover inside and out – including a change of interior seating layout to give more generous ‘2 + 1’ seating in the front section, rather than four seats across the bus.
This is a dual destination/split run item displaying either V3 Burton via Willington or Repton V1 Derby via Tutbury, Etwall
