- R J & I Monkhouse was established by the late Reg Monkhouse on the 1st August 1950 with an AEC Mammoth Major, registration KAO 365. Steady progression led to Reg buying the company’s first articulated truck in 1963 & from that day on, they never purchased another rigid vehicle.
Today the company is operated by his son Ian Monkhouse & grandson Stuart from the depot at Sandysike, Longtown in Cumbria. Their vehicles are all named after Reg’s father, Joseph Monkhouse, who was killed in action in the Great War.
Like many haulage companies, R J & I Monkhouse Ltd has also ventured into warehousing while there main traffic carried is peat, building supplies & fertilisers.
