Crossley DD42 Dipped Window (Sunderland Corporation)
Crossley DD42 Dipped Window (Sunderland Corporation) in Red (1:76 scale) - The Borough (now City) of Sunderland commenced municipal operation of tramways in 1900 but only added its motor buses to the system from May 1929. After World War II buses were in short supply and the Corporation Transport Department turned to Crossley Motors introducing six with Crossley’s distinctive ‘Manchester’ style of coachwork in 1947; of which No. 13, GR9007 is depicted; and six with ‘Liverpool’ style bodies in 1949. Crossley diesel engines were eventually replaced by Garner 5LW engines from the pre-war Daimler buses. No. 13 was withdrawn in 1962 and converted into a mobile polling both for ten years. It has been saved by a Crossley enthusiast and magnificently restored to its original 1947
