SPECIFICATION Sidecut: 125mm-80mm-109mm Radius: 17 Metres (For 177cm Length) Base Profile: All Terrain Rocker Ski Core: Fir/Aspen Bindings: Marker M3 integrated binding system FEATURES AND BENEFITS MOD Suspension Added on top of the skis primary core is a secondary core, called the MOD structure that essentially acts on its own as a suspension system quieting the ride of the ski. The key is that this secondary core acts independently from the primary core, so it does not affect the overall flex of the ski. Progressive sidecut Progressive Sidecut provides wider waist skis with more versatility to be used in all conditions. Sidecut progressively increases as you move up the length of the ski from the tail to the tip. This provides confident and quick initiation on hard snow, while allowing easy release in powder and crud Carbon Web A raised X-shaped pattern has been added to specific regions of the MOD structure to create a structural shape to support a Carbon Web. This X-shaped carbon support is furthest from the core to increase torsional rigidity for greater edge hold and grip. This layer works independently of the primary core so the overall longitudinal flex is unchanged All Terrain RoX By focusing on the advantages of Rocker, in combination with an X-shaped Mod structure and carbon web, K2 has developed RoX technology, a new standard for high-performance ski design with unshakeable hold and effortless turn initiation.. All Terrain Rocker Designed for all ability levels with added versatility and ease in all snow conditions. With Head’s “Rocker Done Right”, era 3.0, the all mountain REV 80 belies its width to produce a nimble all conditions piste ski that is equally agile off the sides for the progressing intermediate and advanced skier wanting to retain a short turn radius Whatever the snow conditions, and whether on piste or off into the powder, this ski delivers a dependable sure –footedness and has the range to allow you to develop and push your skills. The 80mm width is good for modern European ski conditions and allows you to explore the mountain a little more even if your ambitions are 90% on the piste. The PR11 Bindings offer great performance across a wide DIN range. This also offers a slight reduction in weight over the 80’s bigger brother the Rev Pro 85. FEATURES AND BENEFITS ERA 3.0 takes 3 key technologies to combine them into one awesome skiing package: 1. ALLRIDE ROCKER A targeted amount of rocker is placed in each era 3.0 ski to compliment the radius of the ski, to ensure maximum performance for all ability levels. Steering is easier for all skiers and soft snow versatility is enhanced. 2. PROGRESSIVE RADIUS Regular rocker makes skiers place their ski further on edge to get the full edge length from tip-to-tail. With Head’s progressive radius, up to 50% less angulation is required to enjoy full edge contact. More edge on the snow means more edge grip. 3. INTELLIRISE REBOUND Head have moved their legendary piezoelectric Intellifibers to the tip of the skis. The nasty tip vibrations found on regular rockers are not found here. These skis are too smart for that. SKI SPECIFICATION Geometry: 130mm/81mm/112mm (In 177cm length) Turn Radius: A very agile 14.8 metres average (In 177cm length) for an 80mm width all-mountain ski Core Construction: Sandwich Cap Construction with Intellifibers Bases: Quality Structured UHM C Bases Bindings: Head PR 11 Bindings, PowerRail SKI PROFILE Snow Conditions: Groomed Pistes, Unprepared Pistes, Light Powder Ski Terrain: Pistes, Light Off-Piste Skier Level: Intermediates, Advanced, Expert Skiers “When I had the speech on era 3.0, and even the replica mini ski model (which we subsequently ‘borrowed’, sorry Head) I listened but maybe was thinking ‘here we go again’. How wrong I was, this isn’t ground breaking technology, but rather the application of three different technologies to produce an awesome result. If you are not looking for an all-out aggressive all conditions ski (Which would be the REV 85 PRO) then this is an ideal compromise ski for someone who wants to blast from time to time, and cruise the pistes too.” IS IT FOR ME? For the all conditions skier that wants no compromise edge hold and full edge contact, but wants a bit of width and float when the conditions dictate on the piste.

Z-Clip skin compatible These are holes at the tip and tail to allow for easy fitting of pre-cut skins designed specifically for these skis. The skis come with Skin Grommets that are designed to fill these holes when not in use! Tapered Tip All Freeride skis come with a tapered tip design and lower profile to maximise tip predictability in softer snow conditions. Tips with this design have shifted the widest part of the contact further back to reduce tip weight and deflection in soft and variable snow conditions. Powder Tip The widest point of a powder tip is 7cm back from the standard contact point. The design adds stability and predictability while skiing and is less likely to hook or grab in light crusts or variable conditions. The CHAM range, constructed in the Chamonix valley, the cradle of extreme skiing, pushes back the limits of Freeride and simultaneously makes it more accessible. The new ‘levitation Profile’ and Dynastar’s high quality manufacturing processes combine to deliver an unbeatable mix of handling, flotation, power and stability in all snow conditions. The CHAM 87 is the next-generation 5-point sidecut Freeride ski that delivers a unique, user-friendly blend of float, manoeuvrability, and stability in all snow conditions. It features Dynastars Levitation Profile which has a long rockered tip, classic camber under the foot, and a flat pintail. The Cham 87 varies from the 97 and 107 in that this does not come with the titanal sheets in its core construction. This allows this ski to be lighter, but also not as aggressive as the wider models This ski, being 87 underfoot and having a slightly softer flex allows it to suit more intermediate skiers or those just getting into the Freeride scene. Ski Specification Geometry: 127mm / 87mm / 103mm Turn Radius: 16 metres at 172cm Terrain: All Mountain/Freeride Orientated Core Material: Woodcore Camber/Rocker: All Snow Rocker Technology: Levitation profile, pin tail and flat tail Bindings: Look NX12 Ski Features All snow Rocker: A fairly long, progressive tip-only rocker for improved terrain absorption and impeccable flotation in powder. The absence of titanal sheets reduces weight significantly. The straight sidewalls ensure precise, effective transmission of the skier’s movements. Pin and flat tail: A flat, narrower tail that maximises the benefits of the 5 point sidecut. Levitation profile: The combination of a 5 pint sidecut, extra long tip rocker, traditional camber underfoot and narrower ‘pin-tail’ produces the reliability and versatility that are essential in Freeride. Skier Profile Ski terrain: All-Mountain Skiing Snow Conditions: All snow conditions from boiler plate to powder Skier Profile: Advancing intermediates through to expert skiers Although this ski has significant rocker at the tip it remains relatively flat on the tail. This, in combination with the pin-tail shape allows for improved balance and helps maintains direction when playing in deeper snow and allows for a smooth ride with easy turn initiation. Although the ski is slightly softer than the wider models it still provides extremely smooth transitions between turns on hardpack as well as in powder and the softer core, combined with traditional camber at the waist, offers (like all Dynastar skis before them) great stability, edge grip and power. This ski is slightly softer than the other wider models

It is an all-mountain category ski so is equally adept in powder” IS IT FOR ME? This ski is for the aggressive all-conditions skier who wants a ski that will thunder through all snow conditions – crud, ice, slush and give huge confidence, for the powerful piste or all-mountain skier.
The RTM 77 clearly prefers to spend its time on the groomed slopes, with a tip rocker providing effortless turn initiation that adapts to the skiers whims as if by magic. Theres an extra bonus too: The bow arc provides decent lift for fresh powder days as well. The Dual Woodcore Special has been lightened a little and yet still helps drive power to the edges for incredible edge hold, and 3D shaping keeps the ski torsionally stiff where required. FEATURES AND BENEFITS Full Dual XTD Wood Core Special – Stiffness in the right places for power and stability and lightened without decreasing performance XTD Transmission technology drives power to the edges of the ski for increased edge hold even on the firmest pistes Powered By Steel – Designed to deliver smooth and stable power to the ski edges thanks to a Titanium laminate fused to the wood core SPECIFICATION Sidecut: 122mm-77mm-107mm Radius: 15.1 Metres (166cm length) 16.1 Metres (171cm Length) 17.2 Metres (176cm) Ski Core: XTD Wood Core Special – Shaped wood core to enhance torsional rigidity where it is needed Bindings: Volkl-Marker 4-Motion high performance binding system SKI PROFILE Snow Conditions: All-Conditions Ski Terrain: All-Mountain, Piste, Skier Level: Intermediates, Advanced The RTM series have always been a firm favourite with us, renown for being quick, fun and aggressive on piste and this season they retain these properties, but with the added benefit of Rocker. The RTM 77 has Volkl’s full rocker profile, which makes it easy to initiate turns, but it is also supple at the tip and tail thanks to the Dualwood Core. This means that underfoot it is stiff and holds its edge, while the softer tip and tail allow a slightly more relaxed skiing style. A great ski for cruising the reds, with the added benefit of a raised tip, if there is new snow on the ground. IS IT FOR ME? The RTM 77 is a great ski for intermediates or those who enjoy a more relaxed skiing style. Ideal for progressing your carving, Volkls years of experience has created a fun, dynamic ski that would suit anyone looking to move up from the blue runs.

The MX88 by Kastle is a hard charging all conditions piste ski for the advanced skier, with superb edge hold and agility and amazing turn of speed. Equally adept in softer conditions too! We are supplying the MX88 with Kastle By Tyrolia Attack 13 bindings, which feature a Freeride Toe - Oversize for maximum power transfer and adjustable for all modern ski boot sole types. With the help of the HOLLOWTECH technology the ski‘s running characteristics is improved. The cutout section in the shovel leads to a reduced weight of the freely vibrating zone by almost 15 %. The resulting lower inertia moments optimize the retraction behavior of the ski. This means that after an impact the shovel returns much faster to the stable condition, enabling the ski to keep its track much more precisely. The new generation MX88 features a 10% larger HOLLOWTECH. The aditional mass reduction results in an even more stable and precise ski. Sporty and agile turns are effortless with ELIPTICAL RADIUS. A narrower shovel radius allows for progressive and powerful steering. Only 5–7 cm behind the contact point the sidecut merges with the shovel shape. Stability and power converge in the MX88. A mix of Ash and Silver Fir provide the ideal balance between weight and stability. A 0.5 mm titanal base sheet and a 0.5 mm top sheet optimize stability. HOLLOWTECH in the shovel delivers weight reduction and minimizes vibrations. The MX88 has highly durable ABS sidewalls, ideal for the demands of off-piste terrain Ski Specification Geometry: 128mm-88mm-113mm Turn Radius: 17.5 Metres (For 168cm) Core: Silver Fir and Ash wood core construction with twin titanal laminates Base Edge Angle: 1 Degree Side Edge Angle: 2 Degrees The classic sidewall construction with ABS sidewalls ensures that all power is driven to the the edges of the ski as and when required. OK, I confess, I have a pair of these! And I love them! For tearing up the pistes of the 3 valleys they are had to beat, and the sheer speed out of the turns is stunning. Agility is superb considering these are 88mm wide and is down to the Hollowtech tip I think, but there is zero flap with these skis! Superb!
The new MX98 is a powerhouse of a ski - Featuring a twin titanal laminate and silver fir core with classic sidewall construction it clings to the piste, and yet in powder the hollowtech nose gives tonnes of float. A 98mm width increases the surface area of the ski and therefore the float substantially, and yet with the classic sidewall construction and full wood core, this ski retains the Kastle signature of rock-solid edge hold when required in firmer snow. The MX98 strives for more versatile performance and, as such, a mix of ash and silver fir is used to construct the wood core. This combination offers weight savings without compromising stability. With a 0.5 titanal base sheet and a 0.5 mm titanal top sheet, stability is optimized with a minimal weight increase. The HOLLOWTECH at the shovel delivers further weight reduction. A 45°aluminium bevel at the surface of the ski distributes impacts and protects against mechanical wear. SPECIFICATION Ski Geometry: 132mm-98mm-117mm Turn Radius: 23 Metres (For 174cm Length) Base Angle: 1 Degrees Side Edge Angle: 2 Degrees Base: Full sintered base material with race diamond structure and graphite for enhanced glide Bindings This ski comes complete with Tyrolia for Kastle Attack 13 Bindings. These feature a DIN range of 4-13mm. It also features Tyrolias Freeride Toe, a height adjustable toe to ensure compatibility with modern ski boot designs. What a stunning set of skis! What do I do with my MX88s now?! I though that Kastle would be pushing it with the 98mm width for a ski that is this powerful, but it is simply stunning. It is not for the lazy skier, but if you hark back to the days of hot hatches with zero power steering, where YOU have to put all the effort in and get to feel everything in return as you thunder down all terrains, then get the MX98 as soon as possible to see what I mean!

“THE NEW AGE” The perfect transitional freeride ski with great front-side performance. The Venturi-Tip Rocker reduces snow friction and increases float, providing the skier with the ideal combination of power and agility. Features & Benefits Scott Venturi Tip Rocker M Venturi-Tip Rocker combines a hollowed shape with a rocker tip. The resulting Venturi-Tip Rocker design effectively decreases the skis’ surface pressure in deep snow, while Rocker allows the tip to be elevated to the surface, yielding a highly versatile performer in both deep snow and variable conditions. The Venturi-Tip Rocker is available in three sizes: S, M, L. SSCL - Sandwich Sidewall Construction Laminate Forgiveness & Versatility - SSCL combines a laminate top and bottom sheet with a traditional sandwich sidewall construction. The Scott Reverse utilizes their proven Venturi construction and Dual Radius shape that allows for excellent versatility and its two layers of Titanal create ride and powerful flex. Ski Features Venturi-Tip Rocker This unique design utilizes a rockered concaved tip design, which decreases the amount of friction from ski to snow, allowing the ski to effortlessly track through different snow conditions while improving torsional rigidity. Venturi Tip Rocker is available in three sizes S, M, and L. Venturi Tip & Tail The Venturi Tip and Tail concept is found exclusively on SCOTT skis. The Venturi geometry decreases the running surface pressure, allowing the ski to track better with less effort, meaning the ski will be more forgiving without sacrificing performance. Dual Radius Traditional skis have a fixed radius that determines the length of every turn. Scott skis combine two radii (dual radius) to create the sidecut or “shape” of the ski. This Dual Radius creates a more versatile ski, which is not confined to one type of skiing or terrain. Having a bigger front radius provides great stability and forgiveness in every snow condition. Pre-Track Scott’s Pre-Track technology allows a variable effective edge depending on terrain. The unique shovel and tail geometry offers a smaller effective edge for short radius turns on groomed slopes and a longer effective edge when making bigger turns or skiing off-piste. The CHAM 107 is the next-generation 5-point sidecut freeride ski that delivers a unique, user-friendly blend of float, manoeuvrability, and stability in all snow conditions. Combining a tapered tip and tail with traditional sidecut underfoot for both effortless manoeuvrability and powerful turns in new snow, and the ability to hold its edge and carve on harder snow. It features Dynastars Levitation Profile which has a long rockered tip, classic camber under the foot, and a flat pintail. Combined with a 107mm waist, these features give the Cham 107 superior float through powder, but also excellent edge-grip on the hardpack. Ski Specification Geometry: 137mm / 107mm / 122mm Turn Radius: 20 metres at 184cm Terrain: All Mountain/Freeride Orientated Core Material: Wood Titanal Camber/Rocker: All Snow Rocker Technology: Levitation profile, pin tail and flat tail Bindings: Not included Ski Features All snow Rocker: A fairly long, progressive tip-only rocker for improved terrain absorption and impeccable flotation in powder. Ski rotation is facilitated making fore/aft balance easier and reducing muscle fatigue off-piste. The flat tail means you don’t lose the tail pressure required for high speed Freeride or off-piste jump lands. Wood Titanal Construction: Traditional sandwich technology with wood core and two titanal layers that provide excellent stability in carving and greatly reduced torsional effects. The power is provided by two layers of fibreglass whose basic weight varies depending on the model and the desired skiability. The double melamine/phenol sidewalls ensure flexibility and power according to the skiers needs in the direct phases of the turn. Although this ski has significant rocker at the tip it remains relatively flat on the tail. This, in combination with the pin-tail shape allows for improved balance in powder and maintains direction when playing in deep snow. However it is not just in the deep stuff that these skis excel. With traditional camber at the waist, they (like all Dynastar skis before them) have great stability, grip and power. This ski powers through whatever is in front of it, be it crud, hardpack or deep powder. They do not feel like they are 107mm underfoot and turn surprisingly quickly. If you concentrate on your skiing and not the skis then you soon forget that you are on a 107mm waist and can really enjoy the exceptional skiability and performance that these skis offer. The Cham is the replacement of the Legend series (which I love), but it is a completely new s

I am happy to say this is an AMAZING feat of engineering. I don’t know how they have managed such perfect fusion between the aramid, carbon and Titanal (The waterjet cutting is key, its so precise, and SO expensive and time consuming) but the result is a technically flawless high performance, high power all mountain ski that is so light weight considering the performance from underfoot, which never leaves you feel wanting! It is so thin that you expect it to be flapping around, but honestly, it is just so planted. I wouldn’t leave these outside the restaurant at lunchtime, they will attract a LOT of attention – most of it good! Expensive, but if you can afford them they are worth every penny.
New for 2015, the Ranger 96 Ti takes the Watea legacy and creates a powerful all-mountain freeride ski for advanced and expert skiers Pistes have limits, wild steep slopes and powder is where it is at! The ranger offers ingenious shovel geometry for float when needed and easy ski touring skin attachment, as the Ranger series is as comfortable being a back country touring ski as it is a freeride ski. Air Tec construction makes these skis light enough for touring without compromising ride quality, and the titanal shell enhances ski feedback and makes the skis suitable for the widest range of bindings whether alpine or touring. Edge & Wax are selling the Ranger 96 Ti with the super durable Attack 13 freeride binding by Tyrolia. SKI SPECIFICATION Sidecut: 132mm - 96mm - 120mm Radius: 22 Metres (For 178cm Length) Core Construction: Wood core with Air Tec Ti construction with a Titanal layer and lightened core Tip rocker: Freeski tip rocker, camber underfoot Bindings: Packaged with Tyrolia Attack 13 ski binding. Drilled in for maximum feedback from the ski and lighter weight. DIN range 4-13. SKIER PROFILE Skier Type: Advanced and Expert Skiers Skier Energy: A sporty ski requiring some input thanks to the titanal layer Snow Conditions: All Conditions Terrain: All-Mountain freeride skiing A fantastic all mountain ski with tonnes of power thanks to the Titinal laminate layering, pushed hard the edge hold was fantastic and it fed into the soft snow effortlessly with the generous rocker on the tips. Is this for me? A one quiver candidate for the advanced and expert skier.
The Volkl Nunataq is a true full rocker freeride ski which despite being 107mm underfoot is astoundingly light and agile across the whole mountain. Pair with an alpine/touring binding and explore your limits! A true full rocker freerider measuring a generous 107mm underfoot and yet astoundingly light and agile, with an extremely stable Tough Box Construction optimised to the needs of the freeride touring skier. Based on the Volkl Gotama profile, with a flatter tail for easier skin application and for a more planted tail when traversing or in uphill mode. Being a Volkl, and with Tough Box Construction and a traditional sidewall, durability and edge hold is a given! FEATURES AND BENEFITS Based on the awesome Volkl Gotama Freeride ski, removing the carbon stringers results in an incredibly smooth and agile ski for the explorer Multi-Layer WoodCore Light – Super lightweight with a progressive flex for a smoother ride Tough Box Construction for durability despite light weight and amazing edge hold Features Volkls Skin Pin system, so you can run Volkls dedicated skins or your own SPECIFICATION Sidecut: 139mm-107mm-123mm Radius: 24.9 Metres (170cm length) 27.4 Metres (178cm Length) 30.0 Metres (186cm Length) Base Profile: Full Rocker Ski Core: Multi-Layer WoodCore Light Bindings: Not Included – Pair with a Marker F10 or F12 EPF binding or similar for total versatility SKI PROFILE Snow Conditions: All-Conditions, Powder, Tracked Out Runs Ski Terrain: Piste, All-Mountain, Off-Piste, Touring Skier Level: Advanced, Expert, Professional This is one of the surprise and standout skis for me, and I would not even classify myself as a touring skier. I do absolutely love the Volkl Gotama ski, and this is the basis of the Nunataq, the same basic geometry with a flat tail for easier ascending and skin fitting. This is incredibly light weight considering the generous width of the ski, thanks to the clever mutli-core construction which appears to have further lightweight material meshed through the wood to add torsional stability. The result is the ride quality of the Volkl Gotama, but without the super-stiff feel that the Gotama’s carbon fibre adds. This makes it a perfect ski for me, as I still want to be able to push on despite my dodgy knees. The Nunataq floats like a barge in powder with superb control, and on the piste you are still able to make beautiful wide arc carving turns thanks the sidewall construction. I was totally surprised by this ski having neglected it before as it is in Volkl’s touring category, and for that it is SUPERB, but it should also be considered for the freeride skier that wants a bit more compliance, and a very light weight package. IS IT FOR ME? For the true freeride skier who wants a no-compromise fully rockered freeride ski, but with full touring capability, all wrapped in Volkl’s legendary build quality and with typical Volkl edge hold and performance.
A true full rocker freerider measuring 96mm underfoot and yet light and agile, with an extremely stable Tough Box Construction optimised to the needs of the freeride touring skier. Based on the best-selling Volkl Mantra profile, with a flatter tail for easier skin application and for a more planted tail when traversing or in uphill mode. Being a Volkl, and with Tough Box Construction and a traditional sidewall, durability and edge hold is a given! Slightly narrower than the Volkl Nunataq, this ski will suit all-mountain freeride skiers who are making steps into the back country but have a ski that can still tear up the piste when needed. It also has a slightly reduced turn radius for manoeuvrability when making headway to the next powder bowl via the pisted runs. FEATURES AND BENEFITS Based on the awesome Volkl Mantra all-mountain ski, removing the titanal metal layer results in an incredibly smooth and agile ski for the explorer Multi-Layer WoodCore Light – Super lightweight with a progressive flex for a smoother ride Tough Box Construction for durability despite light weight and amazing edge hold Features Volkls Skin Pin system, so you can run Volkls dedicated skins or your own SPECIFICATION Sidecut: 131mm-96mm-114mm Radius: 22.4 Metres (170cm length) 24.6 Metres (177cm Length) 26.2 Metres (184cm Length) Base Profile: Full Rocker Ski Core: Multi-Layer WoodCore Light Bindings: Not Included – Pair with a Marker F10 or F12 EPF binding or similar for total versatility SKI PROFILE Snow Conditions: All-Conditions, Powder, Tracked Out Runs Ski Terrain: Piste, All-Mountain, Off-Piste, Touring Skier Level: Strong Intermediates, Advanced, Expert, Professional This and the Nunataq were the surprise and standout skis for me of this years test, and I would not even classify myself as a touring skier. The Volkl Mantra on which it is based is a firm favourite here at Edge & Wax, and this is the basis of the Nanuq, the same basic geometry with a flat tail for easier ascending and skin fitting. This is incredibly light weight thanks to the clever multi-core construction which appears to have further lightweight material meshed through the wood to add torsional stability. The result is the ride quality of the Volkl Mantra, but without the super-stiff feel that the Mantra’s Titanal top sheet layer adds. This makes it a perfect ski for me, as I still want to be able to push on despite my dodgy knees. The Nanuq floats in all conditions, and on the piste you are still able to make controlled carving turns thanks the sidewall construction. I was totally surprised by this ski having neglected it before as it is in Volkl’s touring category, and for that it is SUPERB, but it should also be considered for the freeride skier that wants a bit more compliance, and a very light weight package. IS IT FOR ME? For the all-mountain skier who wants a versatile and light weight fully rockered freeride ski, but with full touring capability, all wrapped in Volkl’s legendary build quality and with typical Volkl edge hold and performance.
The Bushwacker is a superb all-conditions rockered ski with all-mountain capability thanks to a lively Flip Core design and a sandwich sidwall construction for superb edge hold however choppy or icy the terrain. A tip and tail rocker ensure the ski floats well in soft snow, and is easy to engage into turns, whilst the traditional sidewall constructions gives fantastic piste performance. The Flip Core 3D construction keeps the Bushwacker lively underfoot too when you wish to press on and explore the mountains. Ski Specification Profile: 125mm / 88mm / 110mm Turn Radius: 19.0m (180cm length) Core Construction: Sandwich Sidewall Double Quadrax - Poplar-Bamboo-ISO-Wood Camber: Tip & Tail Rocker Features and Benefits Flip Core 3D The Blizzard answer to all the rocker buzz is the new Flip Core 3D technology. The idea: the wood core of the ski is inserted upside-down, so that the downward-facing, convex side of the core creates a natural bend. This natural rocker-shape is already built into the construction of the ski, not needing any additional re-pressing. A revolutionary construction-technique, which is equally as individual as the target groups it speaks to. Sidewall Gives you better energy transmission, increased torsional stiffness and increased impact strength. Is It For Me? The Bushwacker is the lighter weight version of the show-stopping Bonafide, so its more forgiving, making it ideal for an aspiring all mountain skier. The same harmony of sidecut, flex, and rocker that makes the other bulls in Blizzards freeride collection so great shines through in the Bushwacker, but theres a quickness and liveliness that suits a light-touch, dynamic attack particularly well. And still it has fantastic stability and floatation. This is a great ski for any advanced to expert skier. They held their edge well and were great to control through long radius turns. They also were able to perform great on all conditions as well, excelling on piste!
Three seasons in and the Movement BOND remains at the cutting edge of ski innovation. Very much a favourite with mountain professionals, the BOND is incredibly reliable on steep pitches thanks to its shape, which is slightly smaller at the tip and tail. The Rocker tip and tail allow the ski to pivot easily and whip from edge to edge in a flash, which is vital in the high alpine environment. With a mid-fat outline (84mm underfoot) and the Rocker shape, this ski is incredibly versatile and light with a very lightweight core. Reliable, dynamic & powerful – everything you need in the most demanding of alpine terrain. Movement developed their own materials (bi-axial / tri-axial) in Italy and Switzerland. These are made up of various composites of glass fibre and carbon with differing layering / weights. The type of fibre / laminate used is intrinsically-linked to the characteristics of weight, flex and stiffness they want to achieve in each model of ski. Geometry: 120mm/84mm/109mm @177cm Turn Radius: 19 Metres (For 177cm length) Weight: 1.4kg (for 177cm Length) Terrain: Classic touring Core Material: Light Karuba & Composite Camber/Rocker: Rocker Technology: tri-axial & Carbon Bindings: Flat Deck SKIER PROFILE Snow Conditions: All Conditions Ski Terrain: Touring and Back Country Explorers Skier Level: Advanced-Expert skiers This is a pure touring ski built for the ultimate uphill experience, It is not quite as light as the X-series but with this in mind the ski is more than capable of a fun ride back down. Is this for me? If you are in the market for a solid touring ski that holds a great edge on steeps and has had mid-fat width this skis is always worth a look. SKI BINDING ADVICE: You will need a minimum 90mm brake width for this ski. This ski is LIGHT so dont spoil that! For me it would be the Dynafit ST or a Fritschi Vipec, or for the non-tech boot wearers a Marker F10 . The Fritschi FR Pro would be very nice on these skis too. You can always go wider for your brakes but dont be tempted to go narrower. View our bindings department.
The Blizzard Cochise, named after the heroes from the PBA (Professional Bullriders Association), this ski has been tamed by top-class riders such as Björn Heregger on the steep slopes of the Freeride Wold Tour. A double titanium layer together with a bamboo core and the Flip Core 3D Rocker technology will help you too to master even the toughest rides. Make no mistake, this bulls a beast. But what a magnificent beast, it is for guys who have the skill, strength, and courage to let them run. The 108-mm waisted Cochise combines plenty of width for powder days but also offers a bit more every day, piste versatility. Blizzards Full Rocker profile combines a flat section under the binding with rocker fore and aft. All Free Mountain skis are built with Blizzards Flipcore construction method: The ski mold is built with rocker in it, and the wood core is flipped so that it fits the rockered mold (arched surface down). Blizzard says no extra pressure is needed tip and tail to bend the ski into a rockered shape, so theres no material-memory tendency to spring back to an un-rockered shape, and pressure distribution is even along the skis length. The Cochise features a metal-reinforced (two sheets), wood-core construction with vertical sidewalls, built for maximum stability and edge-grip. Each ski in the successful bull series is named for a different legendary bull on the professional rodeo circuit. Ski Specification Profile: 135mm / 108mm / 123mm Turn Radius: 28.5m (185cm length) Core Construction: Sandwich Composite Titanium - Poplar-Bamboo-Paulownia-Wood, Double Titanium Camber: Full Rocker Features and Benefits Flip Core 3D The Blizzard answer to all the rocker buzz is the new Flip Core 3D technology. Sidewall Gives you better energy transmission, increased torsional stiffness and increased impact strength. IS IT FOR ME? For the aggressive advanced and expert freeride skier wanting a ski with awesome feedback and feel, with tonnes of rebound, ideal for steeps, drops and deep powder skiing. This ski was a real handful at low speed, but at high speed it was a diffferent case. The skis changed character once up to speed and performed a lot better and proved to be very responsive. They coped well in any conditions that challenged them off piste. To get the best out of these skis you will have to be an expert skier and once you do youll love them!
Volkl’s jack-of-all-trades is back for another season! A freeride best seller which sticks with a traditional camber with a tip rocker for a superb blend of edge hold and float. The success streak of the Volkl Mantra is unbroken, and for good reason with a perfect blend of traditional camber, a tip rocker and 98mm width underfoot. Don’t let the width fool you, this ski is actually extremely adept on the piste, with superb edge hold supplied by a traditional sidewall, and a Titanal laminate showing this skis true leanings to high speed sweeping all conditions piste turns, with so much left to spare for fast skiing in soft powder too. A Power Construction, combining the titanium material with a full multi-layered wood core, means this ski is has the liveliness of a piste carver but with the versatility of an all-mountain ski FEATURES AND BENEFITS Traditional camber for carving, with a tip rocker for float in soft snow Multi-Layer WoodCore – Lightweight with superb rebound for pop out of turns and from big jumps and drops Powered By Titanium – A Titanal laminate top sheet for faster rebound and less torsional twisting SPECIFICATION Sidecut: 132mm-98mm-118mm Radius: 22.0 Metres (170cm length) 24.2 Metres (177cm Length) 25.8 Metres (184cm Length) Base Profile: Traditional camber with a tip rocker Ski Core: Multi-Layer WoodCore Bindings: Not Included – Combine with a Marker Griffon or Marker Jester, 110mm brake recommended SKI PROFILE Snow Conditions: All Conditions, Powder Ski Terrain: All Mountain, Off Piste, Piste Skier Level: Good Intermediate, Advanced, Expert Still up there as one of the best, it may be getting a little old in the range but it just keeps selling, and who are we to argue, its one of our favourites too! With the development of full rocker skis and widths increasing further, the Mantra has almost re-invented itself without having to do anything; it is superb when pushed hard on piste, and carves sweeping turns amazingly well, in any kind of snow conditions, and yes it is also adept off the sides in fresh powder, adding a zesty speed to your turns rather than a ‘barge’ feel. So for me personally I think this is a superb all conditions piste ski that is also fantastic off piste, rather than, when it first arrived, and off piste ski that can carve. Either way – It works! This year’s graphic is very nice too, with a very deep red replacing samurai’s and wolves. I like it, a lot! IS IT FOR ME? For the all mountain skier who doesn’t want to compromise too much on carving ability on the pistes, and wants a powerful and stiffer all mountain ski
Back by popular demand, The Ski has been specifically developed to handle all types of skiing and terrain conditions. The Ski features a unique elliptic sandwich construction offering exceptional torsional stiffness as well as a true full length wood core for an unmatched homogenous flex. With 3Dimension side cut and a Pro-Tip rocker profile The Ski provides unmatched performance and versatility in all conditions. For over a decade Scott has been at the forefront of ski development and innovation, continually providing skiers with unique technologies specifically developed to enhance their skiing experience. For 2015 Scott is proud to deliver a complete freeski line, featuring innovative rocker shapes and the proven 3 Dimension sidecut design. Scott is a company made of individuals who are more than just employees; they are users devoutly passionate about being in the mountains. Ski Features Pro Tip Rocker SCOTT’s Pro-Tip Rocker produces a more consistent ski flex and predictable turns, by using a progressive tip height radius. SCOTT skis that feature Pro-Tip Rocker simply track better than the competition and are available in four heights catering specifically to the skis intended use: Pro- Tip Rocker 300 / 320 / 350 / 375 and 450. 3Dimension Sidecut This revolutionary sidecut design combines a tip and tail radius with either a central flat line or a small amount of sidecut under foot. The tip and tail radii allow for easy turn initiation while the flat line (freeski) or a larger radius (all conditions) provides stability, power and precise edge hold. This proven design has earned accolades in the form of X-Games gold’s and multiple ski test awards. Full Ski Length Wood Core The full-length, wood core produces a more consistent ski flex and creates a homogeneous transition between middle part and rockered tip and tail. Pre-Track SCOTT’s Pre-Track technology allows a variable effective edge depending on terrain. The unique shovel and tail geometry offers a smaller effective edge for short radius turns on groomed slopes and a longer effective edge when making bigger turns or skiing off-piste. The result is a more precise, stable and versatile ski. Factory Finish SCOTT skis come direct from the factory ready to ski with Scott’s factory finish. Factory finish offers an effective edge angle of 88°, resulting from a 3° side and 1° base angle for an exceptional performance. The base is finished with a micro structured CNC stone grind so you can mount your skis and hit the hill, no tuning required. The Volkl Bridge does exactly what it says on the tin, providing a versatile ski that is as adept at freeride piste skiing as it is in the park flying off kickers. The Volkl Bridge is we feel a pretty rare beast – A ski that can truly perform at 100% in the park and out in the powder too. This incredible versatility is thanks to a moderate full freeride rocker, a ‘just-right’ 95mm width and superb edge grip. Being a Volkl, and with Tough Box Construction and a traditional sidewall, durability and edge hold is a given! It is a testament to this ski that an intermediate piste skier could jump on them and have a huge smile after a few minutes of adjusting, and yet an expert skier could grab them and throw it all out there in the park. This ski truly does bridge the gap between freeride mountain skiing and park skiing and does it in style. FEATURES AND BENEFITS Full Freeride Rocker, moderate for easier carving when required Multi-Layer WoodCore – Lightweight with superb rebound for pop out of turns and from big jumps and drops Tough Box Construction for durability and amazing edge hold SPECIFICATION Sidecut: 128mm-95mm-115mm Radius: 18.5 Metres (171cm length) 20.7 Metres (179cm Length) 22.9 Metres (187cm Length) Base Profile: Full Freeride Rocker Ski Core: Multi-Layer WoodCore Bindings: Not Included – Pair with a Marker Jester or similar, 100-110mm brake recommended SKI PROFILE Snow Conditions: All-Conditions Ski Terrain: All-Mountain, Park, Freestyle Skier Level: Good Intermediates, Advanced, Expert, Professional IS IT FOR ME? For the playful freeride skier that likes to spend time in the park as well as hunting out fresh lines out on the mountain. Volkl just have this canny knack of producing skis that are exactly what certain customers need. For a freeride skier that wants to mess around in the park (And we don’t just mean ski along the edge of it like I do!) these are superb. There is plenty of pop in them thanks to the multi layered wood core that puts rebound where it is needed, and the rider position has been tweaked too. It is a testament to these skis that I would happily buy them as an all mountain ski, even though I am not a park skiers, and yet members of the UK test team that are park orientated were doing things that you would expect from a dedicated Park ski, on the test pipe and jumps in Kuhtai. This ski is just that good! And if you are an all mountain skier who still spends a fair chunk of time on the piste, in changeable conditions, these are a great ski hitting that 95mm wide sweet spot.
The ski for those who love time in powder, in the park and on groomers. For those riders who love time in the powder but spend most of their time on the groomed slopes and occasionally want to throw off some new tricks on the kicker and park, the Bridge with a moderate full rocker is the optimal fun machine. Tough Box Construction features a multi-layered wood core wrapped with a composite/fiberglass sheath to create the ultimate resilience and snap for Völkl’s freeskiing models. Surrounding the core in the mid-body of the ski, it adds snap, strength and binding screw retention. The top-of-the-line models in the VÖLKL Alpine ski range boast a special wood core tuning system - all powered by titanium. There is a layer of titanium reinforcing the ski and adding power and stability. The thin yet extremely strong aluminium alloy extends its unparalleled dampening properties particularly at high speeds. Völkl freeskiing models feature a multi-layer wood core with two different densities of wood. In the binding attachment area, a dense, ash core is used, while in the rest of the ski, the core is poplar. The more dense wood creates secure screw retention and stability, while the softer poplar section allows for resilience and snap. The flex pattern can be tailored to each ski model to match the desired performance characteristics. If you are into riding the entire mountain from piste to park this ski is a really nice, well priced tool for the job. It turns very well on piste and has superb edge hold on steeps and hardpack. This really is a very good all-rounder for the more adventurous skier. SKI BINDING ADVICE: You will need a minimum 100mm brake width for this ski. You could go for a Marker Griffon or for ultimate versatilty the Griffon Schizo. You can always go wider for your brakes but dont be tempted to go narrower. View our bindings department.

This year K2 have looked back over this 50years of history and drawn the best ideas together to produce a great range of skis. By combining proven shapes with optimal profiles K2 have managed to design their entire 2012/13 collection specifically for where you ski on the mountain. Being the widest ski in the A.M.P. model line, the Aftershock thrives in soft and chopped conditions. Although it excels off the groomed runs, it still has enough hard snow performance and power to carve trenches in firm pistes Ski Specification Geometry: 130mm / 86mm / 114mm Turn Radius: 17 metres at 174cm Terrain: All Mountain Orientated Core Material: Aspen/Paulownia Woodcore Camber/Rocker: All Terrain Rocker Technology: Hybritech sidewall, Metal Laminate, Progresssive Sidecut, MOD technology. All-Terrain Rocker features an elevated tip for variable and soft snow performance, as well as camber underfoot for power, energy and edge-hold in firmer conditions. Marker K2/MX binding system: Working in conjunction with the integrated hubs, the Marker K2/MX provides unmatched precision and control on their highest-end A.M.P. models. The system uses Markers Inter-pivot heel technology and lightweight Triple-Pivot Comfort MX toe. This toe comes with a cross-mounted spring, stainless steel AFD and backward release function. Hybritech sidewalls: Hybritech is a unique blend of sidewall and cap constructions. The construction combines the accuracy, power and performance of sidewall underfoot with the lightweight characteristics and smooth turn initiation of cap construction. Metal Laminate: Built with two sheets of lightweight Titanal running the length of the ski, metal laminate skis are the highest performing and most complex construction available from K2. Built from the base up, a metal laminate construction consists of alternating layers of fibreglass and Titanal above and below the wood core. Metal-laminates provide dampening, accurate, unshakable performance ideal for expert-level skiers. MOD Monic: The Monic is a solid zinc mass that works in conjunction with the Mod structure to focus mass-dampening at a targeted location. MOD technology: MOD functions by absorbing vibrations and impact loads along the entire ski, providing stronger edge-hold and a higher degree of power and control. Mod is a secondary core that flexes and moves on top of the primary core, allowing the overall ski flex to be unaffected. Mens’s - Spedific MOD structure: The optimum location and thickness of mass differs from men to women. The mens’s Mod structure is more X-shaped. Distributing mass to the perimeter for increased edge-hold forward of the bindings. Progressive Sidecut: Progressive sidecut is a combination of two different radii, or sidecuts, that enhance the versatility of wider-waist skis. Standard sidecut theory is based on using a single radius. This works well on narrower skis, but becomes overpowering on wider skis, especially in variable conditions. The use of progressive sidecut on wider-waist skis guarantees improved turn initiation and hard-snow performance.
An incredibly popular powder ski for those that jump out of helicopters, or enjoy powder bowls in America, Canada and Japan and the back side of Chamonix. The Atomic Bent Chetler is for the true powder hungry skiers out there and you will often see this ski on the ski DVD’s of crazy guys jumping around in 6ft of powder so effortlessly that it makes you sick. This is the fourth generation of the Bent Chetler and to improve stability and strength this year Atomic have added the Carbon SPBS. This is designed in such a way that the stringers are laid into the wood core of the ski. This really improves stability in the rockered area of the ski and stops the chattering on the harder snow but also increases the amount of pop you can get from these skis and so improves their playful nature. Although the Bent Chetler has a huge tip and tail rocker this ski still retains camber underfoot and does have an active carving edge which, for a wide powder ski makes it very versatile. Thanks to its step down sidewall it has a very lightweight swing weight but also great edge hold underfoot. SKI SPECIFICATION Geometry: 142mm-123mm-134mm Turn Radius: 19 Metres at 183cm Terrain: Powder (But surprisingly versatile!) Core Material: Woodcore Full Length With Carbon SPB Stringers running down the length of the ski Camber/Rocker: Powder rocker, full rocker for maximum floar Technology: Step Down Sidewall to counteract the full rocker design giving grip on piste sections and boilerplate snow Bindings: Not Included. We recommend the Atomic FFG14 Bindings By Salomon SKI FEATURES Step Down Sidewall Woodcore Carbon SPB: The hugely durable sidewall construction below the binding optimizes absorption and delivers reliable edge grip. The combination of wood core and SPB (Sprocket Power Booster) in the Rocker area and ensures extremely smooth skiing. The Carbon SPB allows for great dampening of vibrations, but also increase the pop you can get out of the tip and tail. Powder Rocker: This has full Rocker with the tip and tail lifted to improve float and powder performance, but with the remaining 40% underfoot cambered to improve edge hold and carving potential. Another epic powder ski from Atomic, this ski will provide you with effortless float and make powder skiing a breeze. Very easy to spin on and pop off natural hits this is a true play thing that makes anybody want to get into the powder and play around. This ski does have active camber and so can be carved on piste, but this is hard work and is really only there so you can get around to find the powder bowls. With the introduction of the SPB’s into the Bent Chetlers this year you can really feel that they have stiffened up the nose and tail of this ski and this really does improve performance on harder snow.

Is it possible to improve what is arguably the world’s best all-mountain freerider? The answer is YES! But you can’t hit that goal without making some changes. A redesign is required. So the Mantra now comes with a new shape, full rocker design, directional but moderate taper construction and little more width than its predecessors. The only element that remains is the titanium structure for maximum power transfer. The result is a Mantra ready for a universal range of challenges, crisper and more direct than ever on the groomed terrain and even more playful and powerful off of it. Völkl’s longest-running construction, Power Construction utilizes traditional vertical sidewalls and a torsion box internal layup. Used in racing skis as well as all the freeskiing models, this versatile, proven construction provides tremendous grip, stability, and a smooth ride. But WOW it must have taken five turns and I was sold! This ski has a total new lease of life, it totally rails on long and short radius turns and will be fun to ride in pretty much any condition. I would say it should feature in every man’s quiver but it would render everything else useless! Is this for me? The new Mantra has been well known for being a great all-mountain/freeride ski for some time now but with the new addition of rocker is has been fully updated, bringing it back to the top of the game. If you are strong skier enjoying the longer radius turns and looking for a ski that will take you everywhere on the mountain with ease, then this should be on your shortlist.
Aimed at freeride skiers looking for something a bit different, the CREW is part of a whole new generation of skis. This ski has a pronounced tip rocker and a moderate tail rocker too which gives the ski a reduced effective edge length. This makes the ski very easy to pivot and easy to whip through tighter terrain. At 112mm underfoot, the CREW always floats well in powder and its solid construction allows this ski to perform whatever the conditions. Put the fun back into the deep powder with the new Sick day range by Line. These are inspired by the current pollard range and outperform many in their class. They fall into the back country range, and so are for skiers who are actively looking for powder. The Sickday 95’s are the narrowest of this range and so are great for skiers who maybe have been piste skiing before and this will be their first powder skis and they would like something slightly more manageable or a little lighter underfoot than the huge Sickday 125. Still useable on piste or hardpack, these really come into their own when you take them off the sides of the piste and into the powder. Soft on piste and so easy to get around but i have to admit that this is not great on its edge hold. However you will not be buying this ski for its piste performance. Take this into the powder and this is where this ski Excels. Lean back and let this ski surf its way down. It has a really bouncy feel in the powder and being the narrowest of the 3 skis in the Sick Day range, this is the most manoeuvrable and lightest.
Replacing the SLUFF, the new generation BUZZ is ready to take the market by storm. The ski is both maneuverable and powerful, partly due to its early-rise rocker tip and relatively small side-cut radius. The BUZZ is the perfect tool for the advanced freerider market. The Volkl Gotama is a regular feature in the Volkl Freeride ski range, and it’s easy to see why. A superb balance of versatility, float, power and edge hold. Full rocker profile enhanced with Carbon stringers. Just like its (even) bigger brother the Shiro, the Volkl Gotama is powered by carbon fibre for amazing rebound. It’s slightly more moderate freeride rocker profile means that despite its size it can carve up the mountain, making it a truly versatile one quiver all-mountain ski. Being a Volkl, and with Tough Box Construction and a traditional sidewall, durability and edge hold is a given! This ski is a best seller every season thanks to its versatility and the regard held for it by advanced through to pro freeride skiers. For the true aggressive freeride skier who is looking for an all-mountain one quiver ski that can have plenty of fun on the cruise back to the bottom of the mountain. When I went to the ski range review this year and saw the Gotama (And the Mantra!) I was thinking how long these have been the mainstay of Volkl’s ski range, and for good reason, they are dependable, powerful, rewarding and bombproof. I still think the Gotama is pretty much a benchmark ski. Yes the Mantra is fantastic, but spends a lot more time on the piste, and excels there. The Shiro, amazing in deep powder, unbeatable. But the Gotama just sits there in the range wedged between these two models, with a wry grin, as it knows that it can match both skis for 80-90% of the time. And that is what makes the Volkl Gotama one of those benchmark skis that others, including its brothers, will be judged by. On the mountain, it is a dream to ski, float on tap whether in deep powder or Meribel afternoon slush, and for carvers like me there is still edge hold when required, despite the generous width. I think if you asked any of our test team, over the years, this ski has always been in their top 5, and that shows just how good it is, and we all love the new graphics too!

The catalyst behind Line’s creation and their mission still today is the simple concept that a skier needs innovative product to progress their riding and the sport. Line skis have been around since 1995, so are considered relatively new to the sport, but they were the ones that revolutionised the skiing industry and their input and design has led to the fat, powder skis that you see around resort today with their large sidecuts and twin tip design allowing skiers to really push the boundaries of where skiing can go. The K2 Iron Maiden Revival Skis are the park-comp ski of choice for K2 Factory Team athletes. Its rock solid construction combined with ABSorb Sidewalls makes this ski stable enough to rip any terrain forward and to handle the toughest of landings switch. The all-new Jib Rocker and bi-directional taper makes the ski easier to maneuver for effortless presses and butters on a variety of features. The limited edition Iron Maiden graphics compliment these skis to a science; the Revival Skis slash through park and the pow, the Iron Maiden graphics slash through souls. SPECIFICATION Ski Profile: The Bi-Directional Taper tip is still wider but closer in width to the tail. This lets the ski perform exceptionally well while skiing in the forward direction but the taper enables the skier to have similar switch arc for better and more consistent switch riding. Unlike other categories in the K2 line, the twin tips are designed to perform both forward and switch Jib Rocker – 0% Camber, 20% Rocker – Designed for the terrain park, this elevated tip and tail with zero camber underfoot offers the best blend of playfulness for butters and surface tricks combined with increased pop for unmatched ollie power. Ski Construction: The new Twin Tip Specific construction of TwinTech increases the durability of sidewall skis. A traditional sidewall construction produces a 90 degree angle where the top material and sidewall meet. The Twin Tech construction actually rolls the top material into the sidewall reducing the angle that is prone to abuse. The horizontal sidewall construction of the ABSorb sidewall sandwiches a urethane layer in between ABS for shock absorption, lessening the impact of harsh landings to the rider. Urethane is used underfoot to maximize the dampening but ABS is used toward the tip and tail to maximize performance and edge control. Triaxial braiding in the core consists of braiding fiberglass around a wood core to provide torsional rigidity for added control. The patented machine interlocks strands of fiberglass around a milled wood core. This unique method produces skis with great torsional strength, while maintaining the lively flex patterns of the wood core. We have really expanded our Atomic range of goods this season and it is easy to see why. They offer some great value, high tech goods that perfectly match the conditions that they are designed to cope with. They stand by their core values of Meaningful innovation, this season that includes utilizing the ARC technology across their whole all mountain range, their new HRZN tech for the freeski side and the double deck and new Ramp for racing. Also they offer progressive performance, really pushing the sport forward and expanding the boundaries of what is possible and finally offering style with substance. They know what goes into a ski is the most important thing, but they make sure that their style gurus make this look good for the user when out on the mountain. The vantage range is as versatile as you get. Good for any binding, awesome flotation in powder. Great edge hold and stability on hard snow. Agile in any terrain. Progressive all-mountain skiing is the future and the Vantage is ready for it. With a waist width of 83mm it is the narrowest of all the Vantage models – making it especially attractive to piste skiers who occasionally like to venture off-piste. The Rocker in the tip and tail make it exceptionally versatile: on-piste the Rocker prevents catching edges and increases floatation in soft snow. What is exceptional in this price class is that the Vantage Rival features a wood core, which cushions vibrations for increased smoothness and effortless skiing. The Step Down Sidewall 2.0 also optimizes edge grip on compact snow. It is very easy to ski and although it does not offer the best edge hold out there, it still can be used for carving around on piste, yet it has the width to venture off the sides and offers the versatility of a twin tip so that you can ski switch if you would like. It comes at a really competitive price point and thanks to the 75% camber underfoot and step down side walls it will still allow you to progress rapidly and it is not one of these skis that you will outgrow quickly but should remain with you for a number of years. Is this for me? Perfect for your first all mountain ski. This skis really well and punches well above its price point. Maybe a bit to soft for the progressing intermediates who will be skiing it a little harder, but for a first ski to push your all mountain performance, or if looking to get into the more Freeride discipline then this is a really good option.

All mountain confidence and exploring inspiration. The Q-90 is for skiers looking to explore new terrain and develop their off-piste skills, with a lightweight wood core, tip rocker and forgiving early rise tail. Salomon are well known in the ski industry for producing solid dependable skis that are powerful and versatile yet still easy to ski on. For the 2015 season they do not disappoint. They have split their skis up into different categories to make things easier with their All mountain front side (piste orientated) skis falling into their X-series range, while the backside range becoming part of their Quest category. Still utilizing their popular X-Chassis on a number of skis in their X-series range this diagonal carbon reinforcement placed mid ski adds torsional stiffness for great edge grip and stability, they use this with RKS rocker stabilization to really lock in the tips of the ski and this offers really easy turn initiation. On their quest range they use many of these ideas from their piste side, yet incorporate the honeycomb tip to reduce the swing weight along with utility rocker for optimum flotation and control with excellent terrain absorption. The Q-90’s provide a sound platform for the intermediate to advanced skiers to start exploring more of what the mountain has to offer. They still utilize the full wood core and utility rocker to bring the nose of the ski up and increase turn initiation. With a pair of Salomon Sth2’s mounted up then there really will be no stopping you on this ski and would ideally suit the progressing intermediate skiers. Perfectly at home carving around on piste, but with the larger shovel and rocker to really sit up if cutting between runs or playing off the sides and into the trees this. As with the Q98 it does not offer the edge hold you get from some of the slightly stiffer skis out on the marker when hammering it down piste, it really offers the performance as an easy to ski on, versatile ski that will cope well with anything you throw at it... Is this for me? The Q-90’s are a great first ski to start exploring the off piste. Designed for intermediate skiers who feel confident on piste and would like to build up their skills in the powder, or even for the more advanced skiers who don’t want anything too stiff but nice and versatile all rounder. With Head’s “Rocker Done Right”, era 3.0, the all mountain REV 85 belies its width to produce a nimble all conditions piste ski that is equally agile off the sides for the progressing intermediate and advanced skier. Whatever the snow conditions, and whether on piste or off into the powder, this ski delivers a dependable sure –footedness and has the range to allow you to develop and push your skills. The 85mm width is perfect for modern European ski conditions and allows you to explore the mountain. A PowerRail Pro mounted binding system helps deliver the power to the edges, and adds to the skis agility without compromising the flex of the ski. SKI SPECIFICATION Geometry: 132mm/85mm/114mm (In 177cm length) Turn Radius: 15.9 metres average (In 177cm length) Core Construction: Sandwich Cap Construction with Intellifibers, PowerRail Bases: Quality Structured UHM C Bases Bindings: Head PR 11 Bindings mounted on a PowerRail SKI PROFILE Snow Conditions: All-Conditions Ski Terrain: Piste, Powder, Off-Piste Skier Level: Strong Intermediates, Advanced, Expert Skiers When I had the speech on era 3.0, and even the replica mini ski model (which we subsequently ‘borrowed’, sorry Head) I listened but maybe was thinking ‘here we go again’. How wrong I was, this isn’t ground breaking technology, but rather the application of three different technologies to produce an awesome result. Just like it’s slightly wider brother the REV 90 this ski is SO EASY to ski, I personally felt it was a little stiffer than the REV90, making it perfect for a carver like me that wants some versatility but doesn’t want to compromise on edge hold, and getting a full edge to work easily, which thanks to era 3.0 is no problem for this ski! IS IT FOR ME? For the all conditions skier that wants no compromise edge hold and full edge contact, but wants a bit of width and float when the softer snow beckons.
Kastle is a speciality ski manufacturer from Austria founded in 1924. Although not considered one of the major brands here in the UK if you head across to the Alps you will see a large number of these, and they are increasingly becoming popular by those that have found out Kastle’s well-constructed, stable, agile and incredibly versatile range of skis. One of Kastle’s main technological advantages is their patented hollowtech design system. This has been developed over the last 30yrs and means that the tip of each ski has oval-shaped cut-outs, leaving just a layer of opaque fibreglass this reduces the weight of each ski shovel by up to 15 percent. The decrease in mass helps the ski minimize vibrations and hold an edge more precisely. This coupled with using only the latest and best materials to construct their cores and their timeless clean graphics means that Kastle’s dedication to producing some of the world’s best skis will carry on for another season. The Kastle MX 83 is new for the 2012 season and is a true multitalented powerhouse. It retains the excellent on piste nature that you get with their RX models thanks to the 0.5mm Titanal sandwich construction yet with a 83mm footprint it offers much greater versatility in terms of the terrain that it can tackle. This ski has a wide turning radius and so is defiantly for the more all mountain oriented skiers, but those that enjoy piste skiing yet are maybe just venturing into the powder will find that this is a ‘piste ski’ that can float remarkably well. Ski Specification Geometry: 123mm / 83mm / 109mm Turn Radius: 18 metres at 173cm Terrain: All Mountain Weight: 3612g / Pair Core Material: Titanal sandwiched Ash/Silver Fir Woodcore Camber/Rocker: Full Camber Technology: Elliptical Radius, Fast Grip Shovel and tail, Hollowtech. Bindings: K11 Ti Bindings Ski Features Hollowtech: This is Kastle’s proprietary Hollowtech technology ensures a smooth ride and consistent edge tracking. Hollowtech is the evolution of a 30-year-old Kastle innovation. The tip of each ski has oval-shaped cut-outs, leaving just a layer of opaque fibreglass. Hollowtech reduces the weight of each ski shovel by up to 15 percent. The decrease in mass helps the ski minimize vibrations and hold an edge more precisely. The 2012 Kastle ski line features more Hollowtech than ever: The investment into new heaving stamping machinery allows a 10% larger and lighter Hollowtech for the MX88 and MX83. Bigger volume Hollowtech create even greater weight savings on the new TX97 and TX107 touring skins. MX: Kastle’s MX skis have unrivalled power and control. These are another range that are incredibly versatile, but offer great power and strength through every turn. Fast Grip shovel and tail: This means that the widest point at the tip and tail of the ski is just further forward than the contact point. This allows easy turn initiation, but as soon as you put them on edge then will take to the turn and initiate the carve. Ski geometry: The Dual Radius Piste enables agile turns. The narrower turning radius in the shovel creates progressive steering characteristics. The tail possesses a bit wider turning radius. With a different turning radius in the tip and tail, this construction allows excellent turn variation. Only 5–7 cm behind the contact point the sidecut merges with the shovel geometry. The all new Annex 98 is designed for hard-charging skiers looking to shred top-to-bottom runs down the fall line, whether in-bounds or just outside the ropes. K2 have revamped there all-mountain and Freeride collections. They have slimmed down their range making ski selection much easier and have focussed on building a versatile range designed to encounter a variety of conditions and terrain. They have skis that offer skiers the option to select a model that matches their individual style and where they ski on the mountain whilst not becoming confusing. For 2013/14 they have been working hard with their professional athletes to really push the boundaries of the sport and have increased the use of their ROX technology, and have created a all-Terrain RoX variation and women specific for unmatched performance in any condition found in resort. This integrates their X shaped mod structure with a carbon web, offering unshakable hold and effortless turn. With K2 combining these new technologies with their proven Triaxial Braid and Hybritech sidewalls you are now getting the best technologies integrated into skis that offer great response and superb edge hold on a stylish and versatile ski. The Annex range of skis for K2 incorporate the 98, 108 and 118mm waists and this range fall into the Freeride directional category. Incredibly versatile these would appeal to any seasonnaires or seasoned professional looking for a great one ski quiver. SPECIFICATION Sidecut: 131mm-98mm-119mm Radius: 23 Metres (For 177cm Length) Base Profile: All Terrain Rocker Ski Core: Aspen / Paulownia / Maple Bindings: Ski Only Features and benefits Z-Clip skin compatible These are holes at the tip and tail to allow for easy fitting of pre-cut skins designed specifically for these skis. The skis come with Skin Grommets, these are a clean and simple design that no longer requires a plug. The durable rubber coating disguises a slit designed to accommodate the Zclip for their skin attachments, or to build a rescue sled! Tapered Tip and Tail All Freeride skis come with a tapered tip design and lower profile to maximise tip predictability in softer snow conditions. All Terrain Rocker (Designed for all ability levels with added versatility and ease in all snow conditions. All-Terrain Rocker features an elevated tip for variable and soft snow performance, as well as camber underfoot for power, energy and edge-hold in firmer conditions.) Aspen / Paulownia / Maple Ski Core (K2 uses a variety of wood cores for energy, rebound and a liveliness only found in wood core skis, utilizing Aspen and Paulownia and maple allows them to keeps the weight down, whilst still offering great rebound and power) SKI PROFILE Snow Conditions: hardpack / powder Ski Terrain: All Mountain Skier Level: Intermediate/Advanced / Expert IS IT FOR ME? This is ideal for the fast charging skier who doesn’t want to look at the piste map and just head out onto the mountain crossing pistes and the fresh powder between them
The little brother to the Mantra brings the same skiing experience to the prepared slopes. For those who spend most of their time on the piste but want a stable, versatile freeski, the little brother of the Mantra offers the kind of skiing performance to bring that off-piste feeling onto the prepared terrain. Which isn’t to say that the Kendo isn’t ready for powder days- it is- but the real potential for this tip rocker ski powered by titanium comes on-piste. Völkl’s longest-running construction, Power Construction utilizes traditional vertical sidewalls and a torsion box internal layup. Used in racing skis as well as all the freeskiing models, this versatile, proven construction provides tremendous grip, stability, and a smooth ride. Ski Specification Geometry: 126mm/89mm/110mm Turn Radius: 22.6 Metres for 177cm length Terrain: Freeride/ All-Mountain/ Freestyle Core Material: Multi-Layer Woodcore Camber/Rocker: Full Rocker Technology: Power Construction, Multi-layer woodcore, Powered by titainium Bindings: No Bindings included - see recommendations below SKI PROFILE Snow Conditions: All Conditions, Powder Ski Terrain: All Mountain, Off Piste, Piste Skier Level: Good Intermediate, Advanced, Expert This was one of my favourite skis on the test, it put a massive smile on my face as, to be honest, did the whole Volkl range. This ski is perfect for a decent skier that realistically spends most of their time on the piste but likes to dabble off of the sides to. The edge hold is second to none, the tip rocker allows a nice easy turn initiation then the camber section drives the ski through the mid part of the turn so well. I would have skied nothing but this all test if they would have let me! Is this for me? This is aimed at the advanced skier that is spending 80% of their time on the piste but likes to hop off the sides when the mode strikes. It is a very planted, stable and powerful ski that offers amazing performance levels at all speeds thanks to the titanium inside. This ski will go nicely with a Marker Griffon on it. SKI BINDING ADVICE: You will need a minimum 90mm brake width for this ski. You could go for a Marker Griffon or for lighter skiers the Marker Squire. You can always go wider for your brakes but dont be tempted to go narrower.
The Annex 98 is inspired by hard-charging, fall-line focused skiers seeking the best lines: in-bounds, on the border, in the trees, or just outside the gates and beyond. We have stocked K2 since we started the business and with the range and quality of their skis it is easy to see why. Speak to any staff member and they own or would like to own at least one pair from the K2 range. This year K2 have added RoX technology across a number of the women’s range to improve their edge hold and torsional stiffness in the tip as well as help vibration dampening. This was utilized in the men’s range last season with great response and is now spread out across more of their range. This, combined with their new Baseline 2.0 technology has changed the performance of their women specific range and they have done this by using a new comprehensive build process where a skis top shape is redesigned to complement the side profile along the entire ski. They have called this ‘Baseline 2.0’ and K2 has managed to engineer skis for varied skier types and even different styles of skiing, while also finely tuning them for a specific snow condition. The Annex 98 is positioned at the frontline of the Freeride Fleet, the annex 98 is inspired by hard-charging, fall-line focused skiers seeking the best lines: in-bounds, on the border, in the trees, or just outside the gates and beyond. These skis use the Baseline2 Freeride construction. With this the tip and taper increase with waist width. The Profiles allow for predicable planing through soft and unpredictable snow with a low, long rise and all Terrain Rocker. Underfoot the sidecuts are moderate to shallow for medium to longer turn shapes. These skis draw Rocker all the way into the mid-body, resulting in less camber for predictable performance. In the tail of these skins they are blunt with added taper for traditional hold through the turn. The tail profile is flat and a small amount of Rocker for confidence and security in softer snow. It was super responsive but still felt soft and responsive at the same time. This is an ideal all mountain/Freeride one ski quiver Is this for me? A really nice ski for the good intermediate to advanced skiers to move up into the Freeride category. Thanks to its metal laminate this still remains really responsive so this has the width underfoot to sit up in powder, yet the stiffness to offer great response on piste. This means that those of you who have been on 80mm skis for the last few years and are looking to progress but do not want to lose any hard pack performance then this is a really nice option.

Using the guts of Salomons Lab Race skis, and yet optimized for a lighter Freeride application and built on their ultra versatile utility rocker platform, this is the new one-ski quiver of the Salmon Freeride team. This ski is using the Honeycomb tip, which offers great manoeuvrability with fluid terrain absorption and their ‘hook free taper’ which offers a 5point sidecut and a tip and tail taper to improve turn initiation and steering in soft and variable snow conditions to offer great versatility where ever you take it. Ski Specification Geometry: 138mm/104mm/127mm for 183cm Length Turn Radius: 20.5 Metres for 183cm length Terrain: All mountain / Freeride Core Material: Full Wood S-core. You can really feel the difference in the new S-core which was developed in the Salomon race lab and uses 3mm of alternating laminates of poplar and ash hardwoods that run the entire length of the ski. This offers maximum precision, stability and edge grip. At 104 underfoot it is falling into that optimum waist width now to offer great versatility and the double titanium laminate allows this ski to withhold its torsional rigidity, whilst having the width and flex to sit up in new snow. Packed with features this is a great one ski quiver that feels lively, responsive and fun to ski on. Is this for me? Designed for the advanced to expert skiers but perfectly suitable for the good intermediate skiers this will suit a wide variety of users, however it is at its best when being taken off the sides and through the new snow. It has a longer turning radius, and would be great for a seasonaire or a skier who will be out a few times in a season and getting a few different conditions that they will need to cope with. If you wanted you could quite easily mount this up with a tour bindings to offer you a bit more versatility and greater access to the back cou

For the all mountain skier who doesn’t want to compromise too much on carving ability on the pistes, and wants a powerful and stiffer all mountain ski.

The Kastle MX 88 is new for the 2012 season and is a true multitalented powerhouse. It retains the excellent on piste nature that you get with their RX models thanks to the 0.5mm Titanal sandwich construction yet is now 88mm underfoot and so offers a much greater versatility in terms of the terrain that it can tackle. This ski has a wide turning radius and so is defiantly for the more all mountain oriented skiers, but those that enjoy venturing into the powder will find that this is a ‘piste ski’ that can put other powder skis to shame. Ski Specification Geometry: 128mm / 88mm / 113mm Turn Radius: 20 metres at 178cm Terrain: All Mountain Weight: 4174g / Pair Core Material: Titanal sandwiched Ash/Silver Fir Woodcore Camber/Rocker: Full Camber Technology: Elliptical Radius, Fast Grip Shovel and tail, Hollowtech. Bindings: K12 Ti Ski Features Hollowtech: This is Kastle’s proprietary Hollowtech technology ensures a smooth ride and consistent edge tracking. Precision and performance are realized with the MX88. Wood
This year K2 have looked back over this 50 years of history and drawn the best ideas together to produce a great range of skis. By combining proven shapes with optimal profiles K2 have managed to design their entire 2012/13 collection specifically for where you ski on the mountain. The ‘side’ skis (that this ski falls into) are geared towards the side country. As such, they are more robust, more powerful, sidewall constructed skis with generally wider waist widths and more rocker than the ‘Back’ skis. The SideSeth is named after Seth Morrison and reflects his recent focus on more technical big mountain skiing. Though soft snow focused, a stiffer tail with slightly less rocker improves hard snow performance and transforms the SideSeth into a more versatile, hard-charging plank that’s specialised for big mountain skiing, The slightly raised kick tail retains versatility and forgiveness in narrow, concave couloirs, whist it also increase the skis utility as a tool. Ski Specification Geometry: 147mm / 118mm / 135mm Turn Radius: 26 metres at 181cm Weight: 2292g at 181cm Terrain: Powder orientated Core Material: Fir/Aspen/Maple Core Camber/Rocker: Powder Rocker Technology: Hybritech Sidewall, Powder tip, Progressive sidecut, tip/tail hardware/skins Bindings: Flat Deck Ski Features Power Rocker (50% tip and tail rocker): Power Rocker is designed for unmatched flotation in deep snow. This tip has the most elevation and longest measurement of Rocker and offers skiers a “Surfy” feel with enhanced soft-snow performance. The camber region still exists to ensure edge-hold on firmer conditions. Hybritech sidewalls: Hybritech is a unique blend of sidewall and cap constructions. The construction combines the accuracy, power and performance of sidewall underfoot with the lightweight characteristics and smooth turn initiation of cap construction. Powder tip: The Addition of rocker eliminates the need for increased surface area in the tip to create lift and initiate float. K2’s Powder Tip design pulled the widest point of the tip further down the ski, which retains float in soft snow, and also minimizes deflection in adverse snow conditions. Tip and Tail Holes: All Adventure skis come with tip/tail holes that vastly increase the skis utility. By allowing you to build a rescue sled or construct various ski anchors, you can carry less weight while increasing your safety margin. These holes also function as attachment points for the K2 Specific skins and come with a removable plug. Redesigned this year and with stunning graphics these are incredible skis. You don’t have to be jumping out of helicopters to enjoy these. Now with the stiffer tail you can carve out of the turn (all be it one long carve) yet they are raised up and so offer you the versatility to ski switch if you d
A firm favourite here at Edge and Wax and consistently getting great reviews. This is a powerful ski for blasting on piste and playing off the sides. Blizzard are a relatively new brand for us with last season being the first season that we stocked their range, however, having had the chance to get out on them at the ski test they are already a firm favourite of many of the staff and offer some great performing skis that sold really well and gained great feedback from our regular customers. Although not as well known here in the UK as some other brands, Blizzard have utilized their flip core technology that gives them a great fun feel whilst still offering great edge hold. The Blizzard flipcore is a revolutionary rocker technology offering natural spring, lightweight flotation in powder and yet retaining excellent stability at low and high speeds. The natural rocker shape is produced without having to bend or artificially shape the ski in a press, the end result is a new rockered construction hat reaches a new level of stability and even pressure distributer that is unheard of in Freeride ski construction. This bull feels at home on all kinds of off-piste terrain. The Flip Core 3D Rocker technology helps you glide effortlessly over powder slopes. An amazing experience to be savoured. Ski Specification Geometry: 133mm – 98mm – 118mm Turn Radius: 21 Metres for 180cm length Weight: 2090g for 180cm length Terrain: All mountain Core Material: Poplar / bamboo / paulownia woodcore Camber/Rocker: Tip and Tail Rocker Technology: Sandwich Compound Sidewall, double Ti + Ti binding interface Bindings: No Bindings Included - see recommendations below Ski Profile Snow Conditions: All-Conditions Ski Terrain: All Mountain Skier Level: Advanced, Expert I loved this ski. I have been a fan of the Volkl Mantra for a number of years (this is another ski well worth a look!) and the Bonafide is very similar, but utilises the Flipcore to offer very easy ‘edge to edge’ movement with great edge grip. Out on the ski test last year I really enjoyed blasting around on this ski. This ski pushes you and asks you to do more. You will find that your thighs are burning but you will be having so much fun you won’t want to stop. It offers great edge hold, and has the width to sit up if cutting between runs, playing off the sides, or coping with a new snowfall on piste. Is this for me? This is stiff and aggressive and designed for the advanced skiers who are confident on piste and enjoy going hard and fast. Although this is 98mm underfoot i would still say, due to its stiffness, it is a piste orientated ski, yet offers the flexibility to take it anywhere. This is a great ski for advanced European skiers who will be spending 70% on piste but enjoy venturing off now and then. SKI BINDING ADVICE: You will need a minimum 100mm brake width for this ski. You could go for the Marker Griffon, or the Jester for more aggressive skiers. For more versatility you could p
