This Supernova Committee 2105 Release by Ardbeg was peated to 100 PPM, nearly double the amount of the previous releases. This was bottled to celebrate the space experiment that the brand launched, which included sending samples up to space. The whisky was in contact with oak chips, in which they compared to the same activity on earth. Impressive & very outgoing! Nose: Deep with smoked chilli, soot, vanilla, green banana & linseed, tinned nectarines, cocoa & vanilla. Palate: Super peaty toffee, crystallised ginger, lime marmalade, star anise, iodine, sweet vanilla & espresso. Finish: Candied peels & chilli. ...

Given the success & cult like fan base that Ardbeg has recently enjoyed it is almost impossible to imagine that the distillery was closed, on & off, for 15 years until it was purchased by Glenmorangie. Sitting on the southern coast line the current distillery was founded in 1815, the original was destroyed by excise men. The Ardbeg spirit still is fitted with a purifier which many believe accounts for its fruity, zesty character. A phenomenon since the Advance Committee Release sold out in a matter of hours in January 2009. This is the peatiest Ardbeg ever at over 100ppm. Nose: Incredible aroma, finest top quality tequila, toffee, vanilla. Quite sweet, youthful. Peaty, but not what you'd expected. Floral, dry. Palate: Mescal, chili, smoked paprika, medicinal, huge peat. Very big fruit, sweet. Finish: Massive spices, peppercorns, charcoal, chilli, nutmeg. ...

A cask strength 25 year old whisky from Ardmore, this is certainly sure to be a crowd pleaser & it also offers plenty of peatiness, which makes this more like a traditional aged Speyside malt as we know it. Nose: Peaty, hay, green apples, salty Palate: a little waxy, salty, sort of like vanilla fudge. a small bit of fire & heat in there too Finish: long lasting vanilla, still very waxy, kind of lingers for a while, lovely for a little treat. ...
