Introducing Glenmorangie Taghta, Scots Gaelic for chosen a perfectly fitting name for the worlds first whisky crafted by Glenmorangie consumers. This exclusive Glenmorangie single malt whisky was specially selected by Glenmorangie's Head of Distilling and Whisky creation. Dr Bill Lumsden, and then shaped by consumers as part of the Glenmorangie Cask Masters programme. Over 18 months Glenmorangie fans have been able to help guide decisions on all elements of the whisky creation process from whisky, to name, to pack design, photography and the location for the launch of the whisky. A first for the whisky industry! Nose: A curiously nutty and salty nose, toffee, and some savoury cured ham. Finish: The long aftertaste is rich, mellow and soothing, with flavours of toffee, caramel, chocolate and dates.
On sale in very limited numbers (cases of six) in the days running up to Ardbeg Feis Ile 2012, this was also available at 100 Ardbeg Embassies across the world. The whisky is a limited edition of 12, 000 bottles and is a marriage of two different styles of Ardbeg, which have been re-racked in Sherry casks for the last six months. Nose: Big waft of Peat, nicely fruity with a hint of Vanilla and spices. Palate: Full and rounded. Absolutely massive mouth feel. Peat weaves in well with the nicely sherried notes. Touch of seaweed, camphor. Finish: Sherry carries through into the finish, but a nice creaminess is contributed by the first fill bourbon too.
The Lord of the Isles was originally bottled in 2001, and unofficially, it was released as an approximately 25 year old whisky, comprised of 1976 and 1977 casks. It is said to always contain casks from 1976 and 1977 so the whisky would be older as each bottling run was released. Much like the Ardbeg 17, the actual age of Lord of the Isles increases towards the end of its bottling life. Theoretically, the LOTI in 2007 was almost 30 years old. Nose: Deep, rich and sweet: the sweetness of chocolate, marzipan and cherries surrounds a deep and peaty centre revealing the warmth of leather and a heady oily characteristic. Beneath the oil, cocoa and a rich maltiness are discovered. With water, the flavour spectrum is widened as both smoke and salt emerge from the sweet and peaty complexity giving woodsmoke, tarry rope and leather. Later, the delicacy of mandarin fruit is discovered, followed by hints of heather and lavender scent. Taste: Powerfully peaty and chewing, with a luscious silky and oily mouth-feel balanced by a mouth-watering effect. The taste is initially sweet with vanilla and chocolate giving way rapidly to a crescendo of peat and cocoa. Finish: Long and dry with chocolate malt and crushed peat resting satisfyingly on the palate
