The Macallan 100 Queen Street Bottling was released by Edrington to celebrate their new home in Glasgow. This bottle was not released for general sale instead it was given as a gift to the employees. This is a bottle that is celebrating a part of the companies history and is a worthy addition to any collection.
The nose affords perfumed notes of fruit salad, with a side order of sugar-sprinkled banana. The palate picks up quickly on the fruitiness, before the texture expands and bursts with citrus zest and bruised apple peel. A juicy, gently smoky and lingering finish ensues.
The Fourth batch of the Glenallachie UK exclusive Single Cask Series brings this 11 Year Old Speyside Single Malt, which was distilled in 2009 and bottled in Febuary 2021. Using a Grattamacco Barrique to age the whisky this Red Wine cask creates a fascinating marriage with the Glenallachie spirit. Whisky Region: Speyside
A quick visual inspection makes it clear this is a thick, oily distillate, coating the glass. The nose does not disappoint, with notes of waxed jackets, barley oil and paraffin lamps. The waxy theme continues on the palate with a balance of sweet condensed-milk-like barley notes and new leather, very thick and complex. An equally rewarding finish gives cloves, beeswax and yet more barley.
