Given the success & cult like fan base that Ardbeg has recently enjoyed it is almost impossible to imagine that the distillery was closed, on & off, for 15 years until it was purchased by Glenmorangie. Sitting on the southern coast line the current distillery was founded in 1815, the original was destroyed by excise men. The Ardbeg spirit still is fitted with a purifier which many believe accounts for its fruity, zesty character. A phenomenon since the Advance Committee Release sold out in a matter of hours in January 2009. This is the peatiest Ardbeg ever at over 100ppm. Nose: Incredible aroma, finest top quality tequila, toffee, vanilla. Quite sweet, youthful. Peaty, but not what you'd expected. Floral, dry. Palate: Mescal, chili, smoked paprika, medicinal, huge peat. Very big fruit, sweet. Finish: Massive spices, peppercorns, charcoal, chilli, nutmeg. ...

is an exceptional release that showcases the Ardmore distillery’s signature peatiness in a more mature & refined context. The whisky is likely to appeal to both peat lovers & those seeking complexity in a well-aged whisky. The relatively higher ABV of 49.6% ensures that the full character of the whisky is preserved, giving it depth & a full expression of its flavor profile without being too overpowering. Given its age, rarity, & the reputation of the Xtra Old Particular range, the Ardmore 25-Year-Old 1998 is likely to be a limited edition release, making it a collector’s item. If you're lucky enough to find it, expect a premium price, reflecting both its age & the exclusivity of the bottling. ...
