The product contains 5% alcohol (ethanol), each dose (30ml) is equivalent to 30ml beer or 12.5ml wine. Harmful for those suffering from alcoholism. To be taken into account in pregnant or lactating women, children and high-risk groups. Each 30ml dose contains 4g sucrose. In addition it contains 0.8g sugars. Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine. Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant which opens the airways, helping you breathe more easily. Pholcodine is a cough suppressant which relives dry or tickly coughs. The syrup base also helps relieve a sore throat. What is Day Nurse for? Day Nurse liquid is for the daytime relief of the symptoms of colds, chills and influenza. These symptoms include headache, shivers, aches and pains, blocked or runny nose, sore throat pain, and a dry, tickly, non-productive cough. Check before you take this medicine Important: Day Nurse liquid is a complete daytime cold treatment. Do not take with any other paracetamol-containing products. Do not take Day Nurse liquid: if you are pregnant or breast feeding for longer than 7 days unless your doctor agrees if you are allergic to any of the ingredients, or you have high blood pressure (particularly if due to a tumour near the kidney), suffer from hyperexcitability, overactive thyroid, enlarged prostate, heart, liver or kidney disease, closed-angle glaucoma (high eye pressure), chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis (widening of the airways) or diabetes. if you are receiving monoamine oxidase inhibitors for depression or have taken them within the last 14 days Day Nurse liquid may increase the sedative effects of alcohol, barbiturates, sleeping tablets, strong pain killers, sedatives and tranquillisers. If you are pregnant or breast feeding: Do not take this product if you are pregnant or breast feeding. How should you take Day Nurse? This Day Nurse bottle has a child resistant cap. To remove, press down on the cap and then unscrew. Every time you use the product, wipe the neck of the bottle clean and replace the cap securely, without overtightening it. The cap will be properly closed if it clicks when you try to undo it without pressing down first. Take during the day Adults (including the elderly) and children aged 12 years and over: 30 ml (1 measure cupful) every 4 hours up to a maximum of 4 times in 24 hours, if needed. Only take 3 doses in 24 hours if you also intend to take a night-time paracetamol-containing product at bedtime. Children 6-12 years: 15ml (1/2 measure cupful) every 4 hours up to a maximum of 3 doses within 24 hours, if needed. Sudafed Dry Cough Linctus Sudafed Dry Cough Linctus is non drowsy and relieves nasal congestion and dry coughs. Sudafed Dry Cough Linctus Soothes dry coughs relief from nasal congestion suitable for children 2 years old & over non-drowsy What is in the pack? This product is a clear red liquid. Each 5 ml contains the active ingredients: Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride 30 mg and Dextromethorphan hydrobromide 10mg. It also contains: sucrose, sorbitol solution, sodium benzoate (E211), methyl hydroxybenzoate (E218), ethanol, blackcurrant flavour, L-menthol, colouring (E124) and purified water. What is this product used for? Dextromethorphan is an anti-tussive and Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant. The product is used to soothe tickly, dry coughs, and helps to unblock a stuffy nose. Before taking this product Non-Drowsy Sudafed Linctus is suitable for most people, but a few people should not take it. Ask yourself the following questions to check whether Sudafed Linctus is suitable for you Have you ever had a reaction to Non-Drowsy Sudafed Linctus or to any of the ingredients listed above? Do you suffer from liver, kidney or lung disease? Do you suffer from diabetes, an over-active thyroid, prostate disease or glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye)? Do you suffer from high blood pressure or have problems with your heart? Do you suffer from persistent cough such as occurs with asthma, or produce a lot of mucus (phlegm)? Are you pregnant, trying to become pregnant or breast-feeding? Have you taken anti-depressants known as Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) in the last two weeks? Have you an inherited intolerance to fructose or related conditions? If you answer yes to any of these questions, do not take Non-Drowsy Sudafed Linctus before talking to your doctor or pharmacist. Important information about some of the ingredients in this product: The colouring may cause allergic-type reactions such as asthma. This is more common in those people who are allergic to aspirin. Each 5 ml of product contains 5% v/v ethanol (alcohol) and may be harmful if you have a liver disease, alcoholism, epilepsy, brain injury or brain disease. It may also modify or increase the effect of other medicines. Each 5 ml of product contains 0.7 g of sorbitol and 2.8 g sucrose. Sorbitol may cause stomach upset and diarrhoea when taken in large doses. This product contains methyl hydroxybenzoate which may cause skin reactions such as contact dermatitis and more rarely wheezing. It also contains sodium benzoate, which may irritate the skin, eyes and mucosal surfaces. Non-Drowsy Sudafed Linctus and other medicines Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking this product if you are taking: Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (mentioned in the section above) or tricyclic anti-depressants. Decongestants, appetite suppressants or stimulants. Medicines for high blood pressure. Do not take Non-Drowsy Sudafed Linctus with other medicines containing pseudoephedrine or dextromethorphan. How to take Non-Drowsy Sudafed Linctus There is a double-ended spoon in your pack. The large end is a 5 ml spoon for children over 6 and adults. The small end is a 2.5 ml spoon for children under 6. Adults and children over 12 years: Take two 5 ml spoonfuls every 4-6 hours up to 4 times a day. Do not take more than 4 doses in 24 hours. Children aged 6 to 12 years: Take one 5ml spoonful every 4-6 hours up to 4 times a day. Do not take more than 4 doses in 24 hours. Children aged 2 to 5 years: Take one 2.5 ml spoonful every 4 - 6 hours up to 4 times a day. Do not take more than 4 doses in 24 hours. Children under 2 years: Not recommended. If you may have taken more Non-Drowsy Sudafed Linctus than you should, talk to a doctor or pharmacist immediately. If you forget to take this product, just take the next dose as soon as you remember. Do not take a double dose. Side effects Side effects are not common with this product. Pseudoephedrine may rarely cause sleep disturbance or very rarely hallucinations and dextromethorphan may sometimes cause an upset stomach, nausea and vomiting. Occasionally, skin rash with or without irritation or difficulty in passing urine may occur.
