Mintec Peppermint Oil Capsules for the relief of discomfort associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)- Mintec Peppermint Oil Capsules for the relief of discomfort, pain and distension associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) Mintec relaxes spasm in the muscle of the bowel wall and helps restore normal bowel contractions. The resulting reduction in muscle cramps decreases the trapping of air and other bowel contents and relieves abdominal bloating, wind, discomfort and pain. The capsules have a special coating so that they pass intact through the stomach and the first part of the bowel. This means that the peppermint oil is not released from the capsule until it reaches the problem area. Use: Mintec contains a naturally occurring oil extracted from the peppermint plant which is used to relieve the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Contents Each Mintec Capsules contains: 0.2 ml peppermint oil BP as the active ingredient. The capsule shell is made from: gelatin, glycerol, titanium dioxide and chlorophyll KK. The capsule's enteric coating is made from: hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose phthalate and dibutyl phthalate. Before you take Mintec Capsules: If the answer to any of the following questions is yes, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Mintec capsules. If this is the first time you have had these symptoms, consult your doctor before using any treatment. Are you aged 40 years or over, and it is some time since your last attack? Or your symptoms have changed? Has blood been passed from the bowel? Have you suffered abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge? Do you have severe constipation? Do you have difficulty or pain in passing urine? Are you suffering from sickness or vomiting? Have you lost appetite or lost weight? Are you pale and tired? Have you been feeling feverish? Are you pregnant, possibly pregnant or breast feeding? Do you suffer from heartburn? Are you allergic to any of the ingredients listed previously? Have you recently travelled abroad? Dosage: The usual dose is one capsule three times a day, before meals. Do not take the capsules immediately after food. The capsules should be swallowed whole with a little liquid. It is important not to break or chew them. If there are times when your symptoms are particularly severe, the dose may be increased to two capsules three times a day. Mintec should only be taken by adults, and is not recommended for children. Normally this medicine is only needed for 1-2 weeks. If there are any new symptoms or worsening of the condition or failure to improve over two weeks, you should consult your doctor. Under supervision, persistent symptoms may be treated for up to 3 months. If you forget to take a dose leave out that dose completely. Take your next dose at the normal time it is due. Overdose: It is important to stick to the dose of your medicine on the label. Contact your doctor or hospital casualty department if you exceed the recommended dose. Side-effects: At the usual dose, Mintec capsules should not cause any problems. Rarely, heartburn may occur. If you develop this symptom, stop taking the capsules and see your doctor. Very rarely, allergic reactions to Mintec have been reported, including skin rashes, slow heartbeat, trembling and unsteadiness. These may also occur in association with alcohol. If these or any other unwanted effects do occur, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
