Talisker Bodega No. 1 was distilled in 1978 & has been finished in casks that previously held the more than 40-year-old Quo Vadis Amontillado Sherry from Bodega Delgado Zuleta. That Sherry received 97 points from Wine Advocate & was described as a both exceptional & a reference point for the entire wine style & region. Delgado Zuleta is one of the oldest, if not maybe the oldest, Sherry houses still producing. In 1978 they merged with Benito Rodriguez La-Cave, & it is from that companys ancient stocks that Quo Vadis is created. This makes the 1978 vintage doubly pertinent for this phenomenal whisky. Talisker Storm has a more profound maritime smoky flavour, taking the intense maritime experience to a new level. Appearance: Full Gold. Nose: At first restrained yet spicy, with a hint of struck matches; fresh-clean & growing in complexity like a gathering storm to reveal a honeyed sweet maltiness with ripe red berry fruit. Eventually a little well integrated mellow smoke drifts across the scene as a wild sea turns up briny, fresh clean notes, & an oily explosion of pepper. Body: Medium. Palate: At first sweetly mellow & rich in the mouth then quickly very spicy & increasingly stormy as the Talisker heat comes through. It's as if the pure, tongue-coating sweetness joins hands with a deep nutty smokiness to embrace those spicier notes.
