Glenmorangie Ealanta Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the fourth annual release in the Glenmorangie Private Edition range. Gaelic for 'skilled & ingenious', Ealanta is 19 years old & has been fully matured in virgin American white oak casks from the mountains of Missouri & the Mark Twain National Forest. The porous oak wood, air-dried for over 2 years, but in this instance never seasoned with any other whisky, allows the spirit to extract maximum flavours as nature intended
- producing a whisky of incredible taste & smoothness, with layers of vanilla & candied orange peel, interwoven with sugar coated almonds. Toffee, butterscotch, vanilla & stewed fruit flavours combine with a classic Glenmorangie mentholic top-note, interwoven with an unusual nuttiness, reminiscent of Brazil nuts in toffee. Jim Murray gave the whisky a 97.5/100, naming it the best whisky of 2014. Glenmorangies stills are famed for producing a light, fruity & almost zesty spirit, & this characteristic is turned up in this release. Nose: Sweet Citrus, plenty of orange zest. Palate: Candied orange, tropical fruit, a touch of vanilla, & an all-pervading sweetness that leaves you in absolutely no doubt about the fact that this has come from fresh oak Finish: The fruit begins to fade, & gives way to a familiar high-note of dried figs. The taste goes on & on, finally giving way to some oak-derived spices
- clove, ginger & a hint of aniseed.
