The 11th batch of single cask releases from the Glen Dronach distillery in the Highlands was unveiled in early 2015. The youngest release in that batch was this 18 year old single malt Scotch whisky, which was distilled in February 1996, left to mature in Oloroso Sherry butt 244 & bottled in November 2014 with an outturn of 399 bottles. The Glen Dronach spirit stands up well to the cask, taking on plenty of sweet fig, Demerara sugar & oak spice. Nose: Rich, sweet figs infused with vanilla & ground almonds, balanced with a crisp ginger spice. Palate: A tremendous balance of mixed candied peel & stewed dark fruits sprinkled with dark Demerara. Delicious waves of toffee. Finish: Cracked barley & warm oak spices combine to give a long, elegant finish.
