The 11th batch of single cask releases from the Glen Dronach distillery in the Highlands was unveiled in early 2015. The youngest release in that batch was this 18 year old single malt Scotch whisky, which was distilled in February 1996, left to mature in Oloroso Sherry butt 244 & bottled in November 2014 with an outturn of 399 bottles. The Glen Dronach spirit stands up well to the cask, taking on plenty of sweet fig, Demerara sugar & oak spice. Matured for an astounding 41 years, this 1971 vintage single cask from Highland distillers Glendronach is a finely aged wonder. It spent the majority of its life lain in cask 1247, a Pedro Ximinez Sherry Puncheon. Bottle 46 of only 529, this is a rather exclusive dram to say the least. Nose: A crescendo of Demerara sugar and Pedro Ximenez sherry notes, and then drifting into the picture dark chocolate and figs. Palate: Luxuriant chocolate-coated raisins, and a wave of spices followed by an explosion of sweet molasses, Demerara and mocha. Finish: Lingering sweetness with a lovely kick of intence spices.
