This is the second release in Arrans Devil's Punchbowl Series, an unholy trinity of releases which started in summer 2012 & will conclude in 2014. This is a limited edition release of only 6660 bottles; A blend of some of the finest Arran casks from over the years, selected by Arrans Distillery Manager James Mac Taggart from the darkest recesses of Arrans warehouses. Each cask wasÊmeticulously chosen to create an Arran bottling of depth & rich character where the aromas & flavours dovetail to perfection. The numbers of each of the casks that went into the bottle are listed on the inside of theÊbox. Bottled at natural strength & without chill-filtration, The Devils Punch Bowl series is a testimony to the consistent superior quality of The Arran Malt across each year of production.Ê Chapter II of The Devils Punch Bowl is a true contrast of light & shade hence the title Angels & Devils. The 1997 & 1998 hogsheads Olorosso casks provide the foundation for this whisky & add a rich & satisfying depth. If the sherry casks are the darkness then the 2002 barrels bring a ray of sunshine to proceedings with soft vanilla notes & more of the typical Arran citrus emerging. Finally, the oldest peated Arran casks from 2004 bring an earthiness not found in other releases of The Arran Malt & add further complexity. Overall, chapter II was created from 27 casks; 17 Sherry casks, 6 unpeated bourbon casks & 4 peated bourbon casks with vintages ranging from 1997-2004.Ê This bottling has proved to one of the most popular of recent years. Ê Dare to dram with the Devil once again! Nose: The nose is vibrant with the hallmark notes of dried fruits, light spice & cigar box Palate: Peaty. Deep sherry sweetness with dark chocolate & a layer of delicate butterscotch & spice; With a dash of water, the lighter shade of the bourbon barrel emerges with citrus & vanilla notes. Finish: The fresh citrus is counterbalanced by the earthy nature of the peated barrels. The depth of spice & light twist of smoke will intrigue you long after the last drop has disappeared.
