The Stuart Real is often called an "upside down" vertical engine, however this is not the case as the earliest vertical steam engines were arranged, like this model, with the crankshaft above the cylinder. The Real was designed by Mr. Andrew Smith towards the end of the 1970s & is based upon an engine that operated in a colliery for nearly one hundred years. Please remember our sets of castings require the use of a lathe & milling machine to turn them into a working steam engine.
