III. Where necessary,
experimental parts were
fabricated to accommodate
the conversion, which
included a 460
distributor modified to
accept a gear-driven
tachometer cable. Once
completed mechanically,
the car was repainted in
Honolulu Blue and the
interior refurbished in
blue and silver, the
colors of Mr. Ford"s
Detroit Lions football
team. As a final personal
touch, a unique emblem
was created for the horn
ring center containing
Mr. Ford"s initials,
>WCF.> Mr. Ford drove and
enjoyed his Mark II
throughout the late-"60s
and into the "70s. It is
said there were only two
pictures hanging on the
wall in his office at
Ford HQ: his father"s
Continental, and his
updated Mark II. He also
kept a scale model of the
car on his desk. In
1983, the Mark II >WCF>
was >discovered, > parked
in a dormant Packard
factory. Luckily, all of
the original factory and
personal documentation
covering its vast
modifications in 1968
remained with the car.
Since its 1983 purchase,
it has been restored both
mechanically and
cosmetically, and has
been featured at numerous
concours events. In 2003,
the Mark II >WCF> was
showcased at Ford"s 100th
Anniversary Celebration,
and was given the
distinct honor of being
displayed in front of
Ford"s World
Headquarters, as part of
the prestigious >25 Heart
& Soul of Ford Motor

racing safety gear. The
Z06 with its 505
horsepower is capable of
198 mph and a 0-60 mph
time of 3.7 seconds. It
has sophisticated
aerodynamics, a
suspension that can
handle 1.01 Gs in for
cornering and large
18-inch front and 19-inch
rear wheels that are a
foot wide in the rear.
Pace cars are expected
to endure strenuous use.
For example, during the
last four Indy 500®
races, the Chevy® pace
vehicles led the field
for a combined 186 laps
of the total 800 laps
driven. That"s 2, 000
miles! It"s no wonder
that the high performance
2006 Corvette® Z06 was
eminently suitable for
pace car duties. For the
2006 race the Pace car
featured a patriotic red,
white and blue theme.
Graphics included an
abstract U.S. flag
pattern with >Victory
Red> and >Cobalt Blue>
ribbons flowing across

Morris Mini Van Royal
Mail (1960) in Red (1:12
scale) - Just five months
after the launch of the
Mini saloons, BMC
launched a van version
under both the Austin and
Morris brands in January
1960. Based on the saloon
floorpan, the
lengthening of the
wheelbase by 4 inches
plus the increased
overhang at the rear
resulted in an overall
length of 129.875 inches,
an increase of 9.5
inches. In front of the
B-pillar, the only
significant change was
the replacement of the
separate radiator grille
by one stamped out from
the body shell. Behind
the B-pillar, a full van
compartment was added,
extending the roof-line
of the saloon. The
addition of two
side-mounted doors at the
rear reduced the rigidity
of the body shell, so
for extra strength, a
new, flat, swaged
load-platform was added,
which also facilitated
the re-positioning of the
fuel tank, spare wheel
and battery which were
all in the boot of the
saloon. The fuel tank was
placed under the floor,
behind the rear axle with
the filler cap and pipe
moved from the near-side
to the off-side. The
battery and spare wheel
were re-sited under the
floor at the front,
behind the seats, on the
off-side and near-side
respectively. To keep
costs down, the interior
finish was very basic and
the van section was just
painted metal. The first
50 Morris Mini vans were
delivered to the Post
Office in 1960 and 1963.
However, because they
were much lower than the
Morris Minor van,
getting in and out was
much more difficult which
made them unpopular with
postmen. So, it was only
after production of the
Morris Minor had ended in
1971 that large
quantities of Mini vans
were bought. All Royal
Mail vans were fitted
with a locking bar on the
rear door together with
an extra lock, for
improved
