This IC in a TO92 package is a 3-terminal adjustable current source with a 10000 to 1 range in operating current excellent current regulation & a wide dynamic voltage regulation of 1V to 40V. Current is established with one resistor connected between pins 1 R & 3 -V & no other parts are required. An adjustable 3-terminal negative voltage regulator capable of supplying 1.5A over a range of 1.2V to 37V. It is exceptionally easy to use & requires only two external resistors to set the output voltage. Besides having a higher performance compared with fixed regulators the LM337 offers full overload protection with current limiting thermal overload protection & safe area protection. All overload protection circuitry remains fully functional even if the adjustment terminal is disconnected. The adjustment terminal can be bypassed with a capacitor to ground to achieve very high ripple rejection ratios that are difficult to achieve with standard 3-terminal regulators. Output voltage is set by connecting a twin resistor divider between output & circuit ground & connecting the adjustment pin to the junction. A power-amp designed for use in low voltage especially battery-operated applications such as AM-FM radios portable tape cassettes intercoms power invertors etc. For minimum parts count C1 & C2 can be omitted. With pins 1 & 8 open circuit the gain is internally set to 20d B. With a 10micro F capacitor between pins 1 & 8 the gain is increased to 200d B & the gain can be set to anything between these limits by placing a resistor in series with this capacitor. For example a 1k 2 resistor here sets the gain to 50d B. The capacitor on pin 7 sets the power supply rejection ratio from 6d B with no connection to 50d B at 1k Hz with 10micro F.
