Our approach to chardonnay is one of exacting precision & restriction of embellishment. The fruit & subsequent wine is raised in a stoic fashion void of any unnecessary interpretation. The objective is to exhibit site character in the most lucid & transparent way possible without the distraction of any extraneous intervention that would callously be imposed in the cellar. With the goal of expressing a comprehensive expression of the appellation, we selected five unique vineyard sites to create this Sta. Rita Hills bottling. This blend is comprised of Mount Carmel, 3-D, Gnesa, Sea Smoke & Zotovich. While each lot is handled separately & in a completely uniform fashion in the winery, each contributes vastly different expressions which ultimately harmonize in the finished wine. Stems play a vital role in our pinot noir where we view their involvement as not something added to the equation but simply something that has not been removed. They are an integral part of each cluster, much like the role played by a skeleton to its attached flesh & help to provide architecture to the finished wine. Whole cluster fermentation also helps to complement the inherent spherical tendencies of our appellation towards a more Cartesian end point. This bottling is comprised of 100% estate pinot noir from three vineyards within the AVA.
