This twelth edition in the PC from Bruichladdich range was only available from selected travel retail outlets Adam Hannett has been working alongside Jim Mc Ewan since 2006, watching & learning from the legendary distiller. Adam has a special talent, a perceptive nose & a rare ability to analyse & objectify sensory experience. One day the ultimate responsibility for this precious spirit will rest on his shoulders. Here we acknowledge Adam & his ongoing journey with Jim. Oileanach furachail. NOSE Opens with bursts of smoke, salt & dark fruit then develops raisins, toffee, sweet oak & ripe plum. Hints of cinnamon spice, polish, candied orange & lemon peels. hazelnut & dates. PALATE Rich & succulent in texture bringing harmony to a spirit of 58.7%. Sherry flavours of date & fig combine with peat smoke to balance honey, lemon & hot toasted oak. Apricot pear & green apple are subtle but the character of our pure spirit cannot be hidden. There have been no shortcuts to get here. Long years in our warehouses on the shores of Loch Indaal have brought out the exceptional qualities of casks sourced from far & wide. Combine this with the influence of fresh salty Islay air & you have a dram of unmistakable character. FINISH You may think it will never end as the smoke lingers releasing touches of liquorice, date & sweet malt. Close your eyes & you are on Islay. As this dram fades you can reflect on another step of your journey & look forward with complete confidence as there are many more to come. ...

This was the very first PC release from Bruichladdich, the very first step on the walk of life, as Jim puts it, for this bold young ileach. the beginning of a new dynasty. heavily peated & unmistakably Islay, this cask strength bottling of only 6000 bottles was a milestone in our progress as a distillery, & is much cherished. Nose: Peat, bracken, heather roots, turf, oak, charcoal. Palate: Incredible peat-fire warmth Finish: Long & beautifully bittersweet, an infusion of all the elements that make this islands whiskies so special. ...

Bruichladdich Port Charlotte Collection PC6. PC6 represents a peatier release from the Bruichladdich distillery, this 6 year old is part of the Port Charlotte series, a limited release of 18, 000 & peated to 40ppm. Nose: opens beautifully, balanced on malt, peat & young spirit. the youth & strength of the spirit infusing the aromas of green apple, mild mint, clove, bayleaf & forest greenwood. given a dash of water & time little notes of meadowsweet, iris & honeysuckle put their head above the parapet but don't linger too long as the next wave of bracken & smoke with a slipstream of vanilla is about to overload the olfactory senses. Palate: absolute rock & roll islay. the heat of 61.6% plus 40ppm peat

This is the last of the 2001 vintage of age-numbered Port Charlotte expressions, PC8. This comes with the nickname 'land of our heritage'. This is very well-peated to 40ppm. Matured in American Oak & bottled at cask strength. There are six different tin designs & the release is limited to 30, 000 numbered bottles. Nose: A draft of sea spray & peat greets you with spicy pepper & lemon aromas. Then the sweetness of oak & malted barley burst through. Palate: Viscous, rich & oily. Peat fire flavours. Waves of Islay wash over the palate. An original Islay darm, unlike any other. Finish: Dreams come true & desires fulfilled! This prodigy of Islay west coast clearly shows that coastal maturation is the key element as waves of marine notes add the vital spark to the oak sweetness of the spirit. ...

PC9 is an ultra-limited-edition release & the final step on this fascinating journey before Port Charlotte came of age with the next year's full-release 10 year old. Bruichladdich said: We considered not releasing a PC9, as there is so little of this precious spirit left, but then we felt an obligation to the many thousands of PC fans who have supported & followed its progress through PC5, PC6, PC7 & PC8

Nose No hanging around, pure peat smoke, spicy black peppercorns, treacle toffee, dark succulent dates, crushed sea shells, burnt orange & cinnamon sticks all contained within this cocoon of phenol. Palate Now you can taste the rich, sweet flavours from the Spanish casks, the biscuity, shortbread flavours of the barley, & always, that magical zesty, lemon peel flavour that is so unique to Bruichladdich spirit.
