The Hibiki 21 Year Old is a fantastic Japanese blended whisky so much so it was named Worlds best blended whisky at the 2014 World Whisky Awards. Hibiki 21 Year Old combines malt from Yamazaki sherry casks and Hakushu Single Malt which are blended with Chita distilleries Japanese grain whisky. It is an excellent example of the best of Japanese whisky. Nose: Sweet, sherry spice with fruit. Palate: Sweet fruit and sherry spice with notes of smoke and a woody overtone. Finish: Long with a hint of wood and smoke.

From Japan's Chichibu distillery, and bottled exclusively for Craigellachies' Highland Inn. This 7 year old malt was first lain to rest in a bourbon barrel, followed by extra ageing in a sherry hogshead before being bottled in 2018. This bottle belonged to cask 2634.
This is a 10 year old single malt from the Yoichi distillery, Nikka's first distillery built in 1934. The founder Masataka Taketsuru chose Yoichi in Hokkaido because of the similar environmental conditions to Scotland, where he learned whisky making. Yoichi single malt has pleasant peaty notes and smokiness originating from the traditional direct coal-fired distillation as well as a briny hint delivered by the sea breeze during the aging process. Nose: Ripe fruit and floral tones with a rich hint of cinnamon and spice. Palate: Earthy yet sweet beneath. Notes of vanilla and orange with developing spicy touches. Finish: Pleasant peaty notes, deep smoke in the aftertaste. There is NO BOX
Nikka Gold and Gold, is a blend that it common in the domestic Japanese market. This Samurai edition is exclusive to travel retail in Japan so it is unavailable elsewhere except on the secondary market. The malt whisky in it comes from the Yoichi distillery. Nose: Fairly dry and malty start before the emergence of the sweet flavours; toffee, vanilla and soft sweet spices (ginger). Towards the get some Christmas notes; warm spices, brandied dried fruit, brandy tart and some very light Christmas cake. Palate: Smooth, round and warming, especially with some time, with a subtle hint of peat. Sweet spiciness (cinnamon and ginger) again, some pepper notes, maltiness and a wood spice warm tingle at back of ones mouth. A pleasant enough palate. Finish: Medium to long finish that is warm with sweet soft spiciness (pepper and ginger)
The Chita is the first single grain whisky from the House of Suntory. Whilst it may be light and exceptionally smooth, as with all Suntory Japanese whiskies it has achieved an unparalleled sophistication though it's maturation process in ex sherry, bourbon and wine casks. If you're new to Japanese whisky, this is a great starting point.

The highly sought after 2013 edition of Yamazaki Sherry Cask was awarded World Whisky of the Year in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2015. Matured in Spanish sherry casks lending it a huge oloroso signature, nutty, thick, dry as a rounded snooker ball according to Murray, with a nose of exquisite boldness! Nose: Loads of sherry, plums, forest fruits, toffee, vanilla and a spicy tang. Palate: Bittersweet!! Sherry and oak, citrus, orange peel, and red berries with dry tannins. Finish: Long, and bittersweet - we see why this has won so many awards!!!

This was named for the founder of the company, Masataka Taketsuru and is a big, bold full-bodied vatted whisky of truly exceptional depth, grace and balance. Box may vary. Nose: Fresh and fruity with fruit salad, berries, sultanas and some other dried fruit, vanilla, fragrant wood and honey. Palate: Spicy and rounded with vanilla, blood orange and a little chocolate. Finish: Medium-length, slightly bittersweet, oak, fruit and cocoa. Just the bottle folks, no boxes left!
