Nature of Work Course In this course, you are introduced in detail to the concept of work, with our main focus upon paid work within the employment relationship. In Section 1, we look at the meaning of work, both historically, when we revisit the ideas of Weber & Marx, & within contemporary British society. We then go on to look at how jobs & occupations are categorised, the characteristics of the labour market & the role of women workers within it. In Section 2, we deal with how jobs & occupations are arranged & structured within British society, both vertically, or hierarchically, & horizontally. This is followed, in Section 4, by an analysis of the emerging "information economy" & the impact of new technologies upon work & organisations. Words themselves keep you several steps removed from the experience. You experience in you own life essentially what you believe. If, for example, you believe strongly in scarcity, think about it regularly, & make it the focus of your conversations, it is certain that you will see a great deal of it in your life. On the other h&, if you believe in happiness & abundance, think only about them, talk about them with others, & act on your belief in them, it follows that you are seeing what you believe.
