This guidebook details 100 walking routes around Ben Nevis & Glen Coe, centred in 10 areas including Fort William & Glen Nevis, the Aonachs, the Mamores, Kinlochleven, Glen Coe, Glen Etive, Black Mount & Ben Cruachan. Routes are graded according to difficulty, & range between short, easy strolls & long, challenging walks with overnight bothy stays. The region`s 44 Munro summits are covered, including 2 easy scrambles & the formidable traverse of Aonach Eagach`s iconic jagged ridge. Alongside step-by-step route descriptions & mapping, the guide presents practical advice on transport, access, safety & where to stay plus background information on the area`s fascinating geology. Many of the routes reflect the author`s belief that the best rewards often lie off the popular tourist trails. Yet the highlights are all there: Buachaille Etive Mor, Aonach Eagach, the Mamores, the Grey Corries, Bidean nam Bian, Ben Starav, Carn Mor Dearg & of course, the mighty Ben Nevis. The book
- like Glen Coe itself
- encourages exploration &

Though it gives an account of his entire career, this book, now available in paperback, is the first to focus on the works of Ben Nicholson`s artistic maturity
- the drawings & painted reliefs made between 1950 & 1975. Together with the white reliefs of 1934-9, these are the works by which he himself wished to be judged. Yet neither drawings nor late reliefs have received the attention they deserve. The drawings have mistakenly been viewed as somehow subsidiary to the paintings & reliefs, when in fact their qualities of wit, poetry, spontaneity & sheer virtuosity place them among Nicholson`s finest & most personal achievements, while the late reliefs are shown to be complementary expressions of the interiorized vision that underlies all Nicholson`s work. As his imagination ranges from the particular to the universal, the two-dimensional image explores one facet of reality, the three-dimensional object another. The 120 illustrations include a large number of works rarely or never reproduced before, & much of the extensive"ation from Nicholson`s own writing has not previously been published. The author`s fresh approach & sympathetic insight reveal the underlying ideas behind the many shifts of style & changes of medium in Nicholson`s long career, making sense of it as a coherent whole.
