Produced by SELCA in association with CAI, Club Alpino Italiano, the map is centred on Etna, covering the coast from Taormina to Catania, & bounded in the north by the Alcantara River, & the Simeto in the west. Topographic base with contours at 25m intervals has colouring & graphics showing the geology & ancient or historical lava flows, plus indicating domes, fissures, craters & pits, etc. Where appropriate, dates of eruptions are marked, with information updated to include 2009. Symbols indicate various kinds of vegetation plus 30 types of local fauna. 14 best know hiking paths on Etna are highlighted on the map & cross-referenced to a list which indicates the degree of difficulty & approximate walking times. Icons provide tourist information including mountain shelters, panoramic views, lava tunnels, beaches, harbours & marinas, etc. Interesting locations are prominently highlighted. On sea bathymetric information is also provided. The map has no geographical coordinates. The whole of the reverse side is taken by additional notes on the area, supplemented by maps/graphs & colour photos: a maps at 1:120, 000 showing winter sport areas, a geological profile of Mount Etna, a detailed table of most important eruptions since 1614, notes on the history of the volcano, local fauna & flora, etc. Map legend & all the text are in Italian & English.
