Triumph TR4 in Black (1:43 scale)
- The 1961 TR4 was essentially a stylish new body on a TR3 chassis. However, as the sixties began to swing, that live rear axle chassis began to date, so with much money recently invested in body-tooling, Triumph decided to design a new chassis with independent rear suspension (IRS) to fit under their existing body/engine.
The resulting TR4A was launched in 1965 & except for the grille, wing-mounted sidelights & ‘TR4A IRS’ badge, looked identical, although the driving experience was much enhanced. It worked
- 28, 465 were produced in two years before Triumph created the TR5 by fitting their new 2.5-litre 6-cylinder engine to the TR4A in 1967.
