Whether you're new to off-roading or you've been handling these powerhouse machines for years there is something to challenge everyone at this amazing Somerset venue which is actually on the Bath & West showground site. At this centre you can choose between a 4x 4 Safari & the 4x 4 Trials session both of which will demand concentration & determination from any driver to succeed. If you go for the safari you will be driving a standard Land Rover 4x 4 vehicle one of the many that make up this impressive Somerset fleet. The obstacle safari is a tight twisting course packed with tricky things like seesaws low-lying branches large rocks & deep gullies for you to explore not to mention the 100ft mud run & the 40ft tunnel! And much like ski resorts there are green red & black routes here with the aim of having a run to suit all levels of cross-country competency. Of course your instructor is there to guide you & give advice & tips on how to overcome those bumps & drops but fundamentally it's up to you to get your 4x 4 to the end of this demanding Somerset course. This is your chance to go wheel-to-wheel extreme dodgem racing on the oval circuit in Birmingham in professionally prepared 1200cc saloon stock cars. With real life commentators race marshals pace cars & trophies for the winners it really is grown up dodgem cars! You will receive professional driving & safety tuition (as well as a few Dick Dastardly style racing tips) from the resident racing drivers & officials. Once you have been issued with overalls & a safety helmet you will be introduced to the cars. They're equipped with a strengthening roll cage & steel bumpers all round allowing you to race safely whilst taking the odd knock. A three lap driving practice session will enable you to test the handling & grip levels of the car as you drive round the 400 metre asphalt oval. Then it's time to test your skill & nerve as you take part in the first of two point scoring heats each lasting eight laps. Up to ten cars will race at once with each driver battling to get to the front of the pack & take the chequered flag using fair means or foul. Based on the points you score in the heats the steward of the course will then place you into a Feature Final where you will pit your skills against drivers of a similar ability in an electrifying eight lap final challenge to determine the trophy winners. This full day of rallying will see you getting to grips with the power and torque of one or two of the world's finest Group N rally cars - the Subaru Impreza and the Mitsubishi Lancer.Having a driving licence to be able drive on the public roads is a very different set of skills to being able to rally. The challenges are much more extreme as the pace is just so fast and you'll find you have to have reaction skills that function within a split second to be a world class rallyer.And of course you're not out there on your own. The other essential human part of the set up is the co-driver the one who has the pace notes for the stage. As you're motoring along rattling the dampers and sending plumes of dust
flying the co-driver is the one who has to keep calm keep looking down at their notes and communicate the route ahead for the driver. Not an easy job.As you can see rallying is definitely a double act and on these extreme rallying days out you and your instructor will form a potentially WRC stage winning pair as you set about learning the craft of this most thrilling of motorsports at your choice of circuit including airfield circuits and full-on tree-lined stages.When it comes to the cars you can't much better than these babies. The category group N might have been replaced by NR4 in 2015 but the essence is still the same in that the cars are pretty much identical to mainstream production versions save few a few specific and limited mods that teams are allowed to carry out.
