The Project X is the board Jones head engineer Xavier Nidecker has been dreaming about since he was a child. Growing up as part of the Nidecker snowboard dynasty he's been surrounded by some of the most advanced snowboards ever built since the day he took his first steps. So, when Jeremy Jones asked him to come up with the most advanced snowboard ever built, the result was always going to be something pretty amazing. However, what Xavier delivered was way above Jeremy's expectations, creating a state-of-the-art freeride board that has totally redefined the future of snowboard production.
Built around a directional twin chassis, the Project X features Jones's highly acclaimed Power Camber profile. This responsive shape combines camber under the feet with a touch of rocker at the tip & tail to create a powerful & dynamic ride which is perfect for the all-terrain snowboarder. To this they have added their new spoon 2.0 3-D nose & tail profile. This innovative design allows the board to transition from edge to edge smoother & when matched with the Mellow Magne-Traction sidecut, delivers a level of performance on piste that is literally off the scale.
But it's only when you start to look at the Project X's construction that you really start to see just how unique & game changing this board really is.
Ê Heading up its futuristic construction is the featherweight Ultra-Iso core. This combination of foam/fibreglass composite & beech stringers down the edges creates a core that is 15% lighter than the lightest of traditional wood cores, all without sacrificing any strength or durability. To this Jones then add high-tech structural layers that truly take this board to a whole new level. These are formed from Textreme Carbon on both the upper & lower bands. This truly remarkable carbon fibre is manufactured by Oxeon AB in Sweden & differs from regular carbon fibre by the way of its Spread Tow lay-up as opposed to the Regular Tow lay-up of standard carbon fibre.
This complex manufacturing process creates carbon fibre that is not only stronger, more responsive & more durable than normal carbon, but also up to 30% lighter. This unique combination of the Ultra-Iso core & the Textreme carbon result's in a board that is superlight, but unlike most featherweight boards Jones haven't put the quest for weight saving over & above riding performance, making this quite possibly the best performing lightweight board available.
