Saffy is the trading arm of SAFRUDI (Social Action Foundation for Rural and Urban Development Inc.) Its workshops in Manila employ men and women making craft items, many of them from capiz, a type of local shell. Saffy exports its own products and provides a marketing service to other community groups and small businesses, including one that also makes a range of capiz products.
Working conditions are good at Saffy's workshops. However, they have some way to go yet in working with the small businesses, where resources and awareness are both lower.
Saffy Handicrafts exports its own fair trade products and also provides a marketing service for other community groups and small, family businesses. Traidcraft buys both from Saffy's workshops and from some of the groups for which they provide a marketing service.
Generose Sanchez Suyao has worked at Saffy for almost ten years. She says, working here develops me as a person and uplifts my dignity and respect as a worker.
