This wind chime is a resourceful use of natural & recycled material. The reclaimed half-cut glass bottle has an abaca string hanging loop attached to its wooden cork, & a metal ring inside to create the chime. Its workshops in Manila employ men & women making craft items, many of them from capiz, a type of local shell. Saffy exports its own products & provides a marketing service to other community groups & small businesses, including one that also makes a range of capiz products. Working conditions are good at Saffy's workshops. However, they have some way to go yet in working with the small businesses, where resources & awareness are both lower. Saffy Handicrafts exports its own fair trade products & also provides a marketing service for other community groups & small, family businesses. Traidcraft buys both from Saffy's workshops & from some of the groups for which they provide a marketing service. Generose Sanchez Suyao has worked at Saffy for almost ten years.
