This is a fascinating introduction to an ancient & intriguing pursuit. See for yourself an extraordinary relationship between man & bird of prey. Falconry was originally introduced as a means of obtaining food for the table. In Medieval Britain birds of prey were often present at grand occasions such as pageants, weddings & jousting tournaments. Seeing these magnificent birds up close is still a very special experience & one which you wont forget. You will be given an overview of the disciplines & history of falconry by one of the countrys best falconers, followed by a brief introduction to the husbandry & welfare of birds & the equipment used in falconry. The expert falconers will demonstrate the skills required to handle the birds themselves & discuss the importance of breeding & conservation to help species in the wild survive. In the afternoon you will head off into the countryside for a unique afternoons sport. Programmes vary depending on the location. You must be at least 16 years old & under 18s should be accompanied by an adult. General fitness is required as there can be a lot of walking involved. Some locations hunt the birds during the afternoon, therefore it is not suitable for the squeamish people. No previous falconry experience is necessary. Devon
