A short tentacled,
rather cute octopus
emerges from the Dobby
loom. An advanced use of
the Dobby technique in
which the image is
rendered as part of the
weave. Dobby is not as
versatile as Jacquard in
the production of
non-geometric motifs but
gives a bit of extra
texture in the weave
resulting here in a high
quality garment with an
added, difficult to
accomplish, but
endearing touch of
humour. Single button

This is fun. A plain blue
on white striped shirt
with a twist, literally.
Some of the stripes have
decided to turn into
undulating cables with
light bulbs on the end.
There is a little drop
shadow going on under the
bulbs to give the
illusion of depth. A
subtle and charming
design perfectly
serviceable for the
office, but with a dash
of humour and intrigue.

One of my increasingly
advanced jacquards,
approaching a synthesis
of textural and visual
modes, in which the
design is rendered into
the very weave. This one
has pre-war single seat
racing cars, possibly
ERA (English Racing
Automobiles) models. The
Italians were more
curvaceous at the front.
The technology on display
here is impressive. I
mean the shirt, not the
cars. We have achieved
amazing details and a
soft look, resembling a
pencil drawing. For fans
of a classic age of motor
racing or just those who
appreciate fine
craftsmanship and
