No, not one our much-maligned 20 something Millenials but a charming fret-work design of the fairytale snow crystal. Finished in polished rhodium plate it has an abstract quality that’s much more than just about Christmas.
Gatsby in sodalite, with its mysterious depths, is inspired by a design from the 1960s. Simple, elegant and classy, a polished 'doughnut' of rose gold plated metal encloses a dome of deep blue, mysteriously marbled sodalite. Different qualities of reflected light play off each other. The cufflink also has a nice weight to it. A direct, clean design which I am rather pleased with
Gatsby in tigerseye, with its vibrant amber hue, is inspired by a design from the 1960s. Simple, elegant and classy, a polished 'doughnut' of metal encloses a dome of tigerseye. Different qualities of reflected light play off each other. The cufflink also has a nice weight to it. A direct, clean design which I am rather pleased with
Eclipse. I was inspired by the art Deco detailing of the interior of Eltham Palace for this timeless classic design. Semi precious Snowflake Obsidian and Onyx stone set in a brushed rhodium plate finish.
A simple but effective design which features a 'moat' of semi precious mother of pearl surrounding an island of polished metal. One of those designs that exploits the interplay of light from different surfaces and finishes from the lustrous mother of pearl with its semi-translucent depth to the bright metallic core and back again.
A simple but effective design which features a 'moat' of semi precious haematite surrounding an island of polished metal. One of those designs that exploits the interplay of light from different surfaces and finishes from the sober semi-matt haematite to the bright metallic core and back again.
Cufflink inspired by my 'botanicals' pocket square - an original artwork created by the Simon Carter design team, it uses the same illustrations of fascinating insects from around the world. Here we have a shield bug in iridescent hues ingeniously and precisely printed onto real mother of pearl. The casing has an attractive gunmetal finish
Manhattan. Also inspired by Art Deco, though this time, from the Old Toronto Stock Exchange. Tonal grey and pink dyed Mother of Pearl with a slick gunmetal plating
A spider and web laser etched into a polished disc. An instantly recognisable motif, but I also quite like the trompe l'oeil effect of a kind of 'billowing' vortex that the stylised regular web form produces. Simon Carter is unusual in using the technique of laser etching as part of the design concept. It allows us to develop precision and detail on a very small scale. I love to explore the creative possibilities that new advances in technology open up.
A simple but effective design which features a 'moat' of semi precious onyx surrounding an island of polished metal. One of those designs that exploits the interplay of light from different surfaces and finishes from the stygian onyx with its mysterious depths to the bright metallic core and back again.
Here we have an exquisite expertly constructed cufflink in a sober combination of magical haematite and onyx forming a centrifugal, vortex type pattern with a cheery sparkling Swarovski clear crystal centre. Very suave and versatile with a nice weight and feel.
Eclipse. I was inspired by the art Deco detailing of the interior of Eltham Palace for this timeless classic design. Blue and White Mother of Pearl encased in a rhodium plate base.
