Painted Journey pays homage to, and draws inspiration from, Marianne North, the intrepid Victorian botanist, traveller and artist whose lovingly rendered oil paintings found a permanent home at Kew Gardens. On finest Tana lawn cotton many exotic flower forms interspersed with no less intriguing leaf and sepal renderings, crowd together over a profoundly black ground to produce a delirious, mesmerising adventure into colour and natural abundance. 'Moore' three button cuff.
Jannah means paradise, Heaven. It is a word from the Muslim world. This design is taken from an undated drawing in the archive of Liberty of London. Clearly inspired by classic blue and white chinaware designs, great prominence is given to the expressive space between forms, as much as the forms themselves. Various hot climate luxuriant blooms arc and trail gracefully, and are visited by a bird of paradise with its long, impressive tail feathers and head ornaments. Currently a favourite of mine for the new season, I love this limpid, evocative design from Liberty. On finest Tana lawn cotton with its superior powers of definition and luxurious hand feel and wearability. 'Moore' three button cuff.
Faria Flowers was adapted by Liberty from a watercolour painting in the archive. An exuberant piece with vivid flowers made all the more prominent by being painted on a black ground. Echinacea, daisy, hydrangea and many other forms are rendered with a lovely draughtsmanship and lightness of touch. 100% Liberty Tana Lawn cotton with superior definition and a luxurious hand feel. 'Moore' three button cuff.
Inspired by the lush detailing and mysterious symbolism of Italian Renaissance art, Liberty of London's Floral Earth print channels the rich, replete, sumptuous still lives of the period, with fruit, seeds, gourds, berries, petals and leaves, not to mention the odd root; but in a modern way with lush and liberal strokes in radiant tints, placing the objects in an exploded, energised space. Dancing bees cavort with scuttling beetles in this joyous bounty. On finest, soft Tana Lawn cotton.
Little Marquess dates from the 70s and was originally a scarf design. A richly detailed, meticulous, stylised floral which forms into circular garlands before wandering off again into trailing fronds and thickets of tiny blooms and leaves. In an Autumnal palette of ochre, rust, midnight, copper oxide and mossy greens, with a 'Jagger' single button cuff.
