A mellow, fruity coffee

wine, Mocha is grown in
the Southwest regions of
Ethiopia where,
according to legend, the
first coffee plant was
discovered by a 9th
century goat herder.
These beans are smaller
and rounder than most
other varieties, and are
of the arabica variety,
which is renowned for
high quality and full
flavours.

Possibly the world's most
famous coffee blend, and
certainly among the
earliest of known blends,
the celebrated Mocha
Java is a combination of
two distinct arabica
beans from Indonesia and
Yemen. The Mocha bean,
taking its name from the
port city that sits next
to the Red Sea, is a
smaller, rounder bean
than many other
varieties. It is
suggested that the first
European to sample Mocha
was the Spanish Jesuit
missionary, Pedro Páez
Jaramillo, who
encountered the unique
coffee during his time in
Yemen. The Java arabica
bean undergoes an
attentive preparation
process, whereby the
ripe cherries are quickly
transported to their
mills once harvested,
and their pulp is then
fermented and washed off,
resulting in the typical
sweet characteristics of
the bean. Our mild and
complex Mocha Java
displays a delicious
flavour combination of
fruit, chocolate and
spiciness that produces a
superb, well balanced
cup of coffee, ideal for
filter or cafetiere.

India, one of the
wettest regions of
southern India,
undergoes an especially
unique process to bring
out the bean's fullest
flavours. Straight after
being harvested the
Malabar beans are
transported to open
warehouses along the
Malabar Coast, where
they will be exposed to
the harsh, moist winds
of the area's monsoons
for around three to four
months. While they are
stored in these open
warehouses, the beans
retain moisture from the
monsoons and swell in
size, losing much of
their acidity in the
process, resulting in a
heavy bodied coffee that
displays a wonderfully
mellow flavour, with
aromas of chocolate,
spice and nuts. This
strong coffee, unique to
the coastal regions of
Karnataka and Kerala,
makes an excellent
espresso when dark
roasted, but also blends
incredibly well with
other varieties.

blend is sourced from
beans that are grown at
the highest altitudes by
some of the finest
growers, producing a
wonderful coffee that
shows rich, fruity
flavours. All of the
world's finest coffees
are cultivated in the
'Bean Belt', an area
that spans the latitudes
between the Tropics of
Cancer and Capricorn,
where climates and
altitudes allow coffee
beans to be grown and
harvested. The ideal
altitudes for the best
coffees tends to be
between 4, 000ft and 6,
000ft, where a
year-round warm climate,
moderate rainfall and
abundant sunshine produce
a bean with beautifully
pronounced and
distinctive flavours, as
found in our Mountain
