Laura Ashley is one of the world’s best loved fashion & home furnishings brands hailing from the 1950’s. Laura inspired by Women's Institute exhibition established a small printing enterprise with her husband Bernard in their tiny London flat.

After several trips to the library to learn all about fabric printing Laura & Bernard made a £10 investment in some wood dyes & linen. & so their business began.

Following the success of the film Roman Holiday" the head scarf captivated the nation's women: Laura capitalsied on this opportunity & before long the Ashley's were producing large quantities of small scarves & supplying to department stores such as John Lewis.

As well as the head scarves tea towels & placemats were produced featuring designs inspired by Victorian advertisements & humorous playbills."
