On 2nd June 2009 two men knocked on the door bringing with them the news that our 19-year old son Cyrus had been killed that morning by an IED whilst serving with 2 Rifles in Afghanistan instantly destroying our family as we knew it. I had three sons a job as a manager in a day centre for people with acquired brain injuries & in an instant that changed forever. People ask me how Ive coped; my answer was that I wrote it all down for fear of losing that too & also to try & make sense of what had happened. The process of madness continues to be part of my new normal. I now have a new life which Im trying desperately to come to terms with & words from Cyrus last letter help give me the strength to do so. Proceeds from this book will help support SSAFA the Soldiers Sailors Airmen & Families Association (SSAFA) Forces Help. SSAFA is the UKs oldest Armed Forces charity. They provide practical help & assistance to anyone who is currently serving or has ever served even if it was only for a single day. SSAFA is there for them & their families wherever they are. Each year the charity supports more than 50 000 people in the Armed Forces community. The unfailing bravery dedication & commitment from these men & women deserve a lifetime of support. ...

China's breakneck growth causes great concern about its global environmental impacts as others look to China as a source for possible future solutions to climate change. But how are Chinese people really coming to grips with environmental problems? This book provides access to otherwise unknown stories of environmental activism & forms the first real-life account of China & its environmental tensions. ' China & the Environment' provides a unique report on the experiences of participatory politics that have emerged in response to environmental problems rather than focusing only on macro-level ecological issues & their elite responses. China

China's transformation in the last few decades has been perhaps the most remarkable - and most controversial - development in modern history. Barely a century removed from the struggling and outdated Qing Empire China has managed to reinvent itself on an unprecedented scale: from Empire to Communist state to hybrid capitalist superpower. Yet the full implications of China's rapid march to modernity are not widely understood - particularly the effects of China's meteoric rise on the nation's many ethnic minorities. China: A Modern History" is the definitive guide to this complex contemporary phenomenon. Deng Xiaoping's 1980s policy of 'reform and opening' which saw China enter the world market is only the most recent in a series of dramatic shifts that have transformed Chinese society over
the past 150 years. "China: A Modern History" explores these contrasts in detail while also highlighting the enduring values which have informed Chinese identity for millennia. Michael Dillon's "China: A Modern History" is essential reading for those interested in the past present and future course of one of the world's great nations. Clearly and compellingly written this will stand as the best introduction to this spectacular and still-unfinished story."
