This Hostas name  Great Expectations alludes to the fact that like most  Hostas its a slow growing perennial plant that will reward patience with a display of thick, ridged variegated leaves that have blue&47;green margins & yellow fading to white centres. The leaves are naturally stiff & reasonably slug resistant. From June to July there is the added attraction of white bell shaped flower standing above the foliage.
Height: 70cm &40;27&34;&41;. Spread: 120cm &40;48&34;&41;. Culinary information: The best part to use is the hoston, the rolled up leaf as it emerges in the spring. Cooking depends on the size of the hostons, small ones can be fried for a few minutes, going well in stir fries. Thicker ones are better boiled & used as a vegetable. As it grows, this Hosta embarks on a true pilgrimage. The plantain lilys variegated foliage is quick to clump once planted. Whats more, the leaves golden margins change colour, fading to white as summer approaches. July sees another transformation as violet flowers emerge on stems of up to 20cm &40;8&34;&41;. The plant is a hardy perennial, so can be expected to die down during the winter months ready to begin its journey again the next spring. These qualities make the Hosta Pilgrim a characterful addition to shady borders. Alternatively, its compact nature makes it an equally excellent choice for moist containers.
