The Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series Switches with Power over Ethernet (Po E) are new members of the Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series of fixed-configuration standalone switches for entry-level enterprise, midmarket, & small branch office networks. This series include two Cisco Catalyst 2960 Po E Switches & one Cisco Catalyst 2960 Powered Device (PD) switch, which receives power through a Po E input port from an upstream Po E device. The Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series with Po E allows connectivity to Ethernet powered devices including Cisco IP phones, wireless access points & video cameras. Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series with Po E models support Cisco pre-standard Po E & are IEEE 802.3af-compliant. The Cisco Catalyst 2960-24PC-L can support 24 simultaneous full-powered Po E ports at 15.4W. The Cisco Catalyst 2960-24LT-L has 24 10/100 Mbps ports with 8 simultaneous full-powered Po E ports at 15.4W. The Cisco Catalyst 2960-8TT-L has eight 10/100 ports with one 10/100/1000 Po E input port. This switch does not need a power supply & receives power through the uplink from an upstream Po E switch, providing deployment flexibility & availability. It is ideal for wiring & space-constraint applications. The power adaptor (PWR-A=) & power cord are optional & may be purchased separately. Po E eliminates the need for wall power to each Po E-enabled device & eliminates the cost for additional electrical cable & circuits that would otherwise be necessary in IP phone & WLAN deployments. Po E switches also eliminate the need for power injectors & Po E mid-spans for powering IP devices. Table 1 provides brief descriptions of the new switches.
