Eight Songs Shiraz was born of our love of art & music & inspired by an operatic work, ' Eight Songs for Mad King', first performed in the Barossa in 1993. The Barossa stands amongst the great wine regions of the world. From this region, Shiraz can express diversity in flavour, style & texture. The diverse terroir of our growers' Barossa vineyards is reflected in the character of our wines. Soils, elevations & vine age vary from one vineyard to the next. The heart of Eight Songs lies in the old Shiraz vineyards spread across the landscape of the Barossa. During the vintage, we walk these vineyards, which typically yield less than 2.5 tonnes per acre, tasting the fruit, seeking the concentrated flavours we need for this style of Shiraz. With Eight Songs we show an elegant & distinctly softer side to Barossa Shiraz. Fermented & matured in 100% new French oak hogsheads the palate shows dark plums, choc/ mocha notes with hints of vanillin undertones. The seamless integration of opulent fruit & velvety tannins creates an elegant expression of Barossa Shiraz at its sensuous best. A densely coloured shiraz showing hints of dark chocolate & black fruits. The palate is rich & soft, finishing with very fine tannins in the Eight Songs tradition. While drinking beautifully now, this wine can be cellared with complete confidence for a few more years as desired & it is recommended that the wine be carefully decanted 2-3 hours before serving, to allow it to open up. Eight Songs Shiraz sings with rare roast beef, rich casseroles, beef & game pies, & of course, a great aged cheddar. ...

The bouquet shows classical Eden Valley lime juice characters a nd hints of freshly baked bread & honey which is a characteristic of bottle development. The palate is pristine & finishes dry with zesty minerality. While already showing excellent development from five years in the bottle, the wine will continue to gather richness & complexity with another 5-10 years of careful storage in a cool area. ...

The colour is deep red-black leading to a bouquet showing hints of chocolate & dark plums. These flavours extend to the palate which is richly structured with a fine, persistent finish
- a wine of great style & power. The 2006 vintage is highly rated by the winemakers & has produced wines of great depth, flavour & richness. Extremely low yielding mature vineyards in the Barossa Valley districts of Kabiningie, Dorrien, Freeling & Greenock. Fermented & macerated on skins for up to 2 weeks with some partial barrel fermentation. After pressing & clarification, matured in 90% French & 10% American oak hogsheads for approx 18 months. Savour with rich game dishes, roast beef, & hard cheese such as Parmigiano Reggiano, aged cheddar or Grana Padana. Stonewell Shiraz is Peter Lehmann Wines best wine of each vintage & one of the worlds great Shiraz. It is the most powerful expression of Shiraz we make from our growers vineyards. The pedigree of these vineyards & the knowledge that has been passed from each winemaking generation at Peter Lehmann Wines to the next, assures us these will be wines of great longevity. The story of Stonewell Shiraz began in 1987 when Peter Lehmann decided to make a special Shiraz
- a wine of immense intensity & muscularity that would demand time in the barrel & bottle before release. The wine was named Stonewell after the district that he believed best showed the characters admired most in Barossa Shiraz. This tradition has continued & each vintage the best Shiraz from our legacy of growers Barossa vineyards is chosen to create Stonewell. Usually no more than a dozen small, old vineyards are selected each year, the oldest planted in 1885. Located in the harder country, these are some of our lowest yielding vineyards. The berries are small & sparse with crops typically less than 2 tonnes per acre.
