Mourvedre responds best to traditional vineyard practices with dry-grown, untrellised bush vines thriving in both Europe & the Barossa Valley. Taking cuttings from the 1853 planting of the Hewitson Old Garden vineyard, the oldest Mourvedre vines on Earth, we grew, then crafted a wine from Baby Bush vines that takes a new look at an old treasure. Our Baby Bush vines thrived in the warm vintage of 2010 that saw a slow & even ripening period. After hand picking & fermentation on skins, the wine completed its maturation in the very same barrels used, when new, for Old Garden Mourvedre. The result is an intense wine of unique quality displaying very similar, yet youthful, flavours & characteristics of the Old Garden. The 2010 Baby Bush is near perfection of expression of this variety. The aromas display classic Mourvedre richness, ripeness & rusticity. The dark, brambly, blueberry aromas are matched with the sage, earth & undergrowth. These aromas carry right through the palate which delivers a rich, velvety mouth feel, backed by very soft & fully ripe tannins. The structure, balance & youthful poise of 2010 Baby Bush Mourvedre ensures the wine is extremely enjoyable now. It will also reward with time in the cellar. ...

Old Garden was picked at optimum phenological ripeness. After fermentation approaching three weeks on skins the wine was subsequently matured in 100% new French barriques for 18 months. These complex oak characters help soften tannins while compliment the terroir-based flavour profile of black, glazed cherries, dark chocolate, mocha & even orange peel that manifests itself each year in this single vineyard wine. This demonstrates the remarkable nature of the vineyard
- a wine of such iconic distinctiveness. The 2010 Old Garden is already a classic & speaks of its rich tradition & inheritance. This wine illustrates our belief that great wine is expression of single vineyard & vintage. Limited stock.

Death's Door Gin has a surprisingly simple botanical mix of organic juniper berries, coriander & fennel which showcases how complimentary & complex simple expressions can be. Nose: Aromas of creamy vanilla toffee followed by peppery spice & fresh juniper & anise. Palate: A big, peppery juniper hit with notes of wood resin, citrus & spice carried on the soft, creamy spirit. Finish: Long with a cooling anise character. Unusually, Death's Door Spirits make their own base spirit for their gin, from a recipe of 60% wheat grown on Washington Isl&, Wisconsin & 40% malted barley from Chilton, Wisconsin. This lends a touch of vanilla/toffee to the nose & a soft, creamy sweetness to the gin. Death's Door Gin has a full London Dry flavour without all of the bitterness because of the distillation process & the grains that are used. In fact, you can taste all three botanicals: loaded juniper berries up front; spicy, citrusy notes from the coriander seeds in the mid-palate; & a soft, cooling finish provided by the fennel seeds. Bottled at 47% abv, Death's Door Gin is big enough to stand up to mixing & makes a phenomenal dry martini (try a dash of orange bitters & an orange zest garnish). Great as a base for classic or vintage cocktail treatment, but soft enough to be enjoyed on the rocks or as a Gin & Tonic with either an orange slice & mint sprig or just a star anise if you enjoy the fennel/anise character. Death's Door Gin truly is the utility gin of our time. Why Death's Door??? Well the name is taken from the straight of water which the wheat & juniper used in the production must cross on its journey from the fields of Washington Island to the distillery in Madison Wisconsin. ...
