Second release of three so far (Batch 1 distillery only, Batch 3 USA only). Multi-vintage comprising of ten ex-sherry & ex-bourbon casks distilled in 1967, 1970s & 1989. Very limited & rather spectacular. Balvenie William Grant converted the ruins of Balvenie House into Balvenie malt whisky distillery in 1892 in order to meet the global demand for William Grant’s Scottish Speyside malt whisky & blended scotch. Balvenie Distillery is situated near Balvenie Castle & the River Fiddich in Scotland’s Speyside whisky region & is one of the few Scottish distilleries to malt barley on its own malt floors & to dry its malted barley over a peat fire in its own malt kiln. Banff 1976 vintage serves as a memory to a clean, elegant whisky with subtle peaty notes. Distilled Bottled August 1976 & bottle December 2010 by Gordon & Mac Phail for the Connoisseurs Choice series. Banff The Mill of Banff malt whisky distillery was established by Major James Mc Killigan at Mains of Colleonard Farm just south of Banff in 1824 & acquired by James Simpson a local merchant & ship owner in 1852. Mill of Banff Distillery closed in 1863 when Simpson’s son built a new distillery on a site to the west of Banff at Inverboyndie & named it Banff Distillery. Relocation enabled the opportunity to expand & take advantage of a plentiful supply of soft Speyside water & the new branch line connecting Banff to the main Inverness to Aberdeen railway. Despite surviving the ups & downs of the whisky industry Banff Distillery closed in 1983and partially demolished in 1985 but most of the rest of Banff Distillery came down during a fire in 1991 & although shells of a few warehouses are still standing Banff is a lost Highland malt whisky distillery. Nose: Sweet & fruity with floral notes. Palate: Sweet, smoky

Nose: First impression when nosing this dram is like walking into a damp dunnage warehouse
- fresh, spicy carrying an old oak saturated with whisky character plus an attractive citrus style. Palate: The richly spiced quality immediately coats your palate with caramelised peaches & cinnamon running to more (now dry) oak. Finish: The finish is long & remains oaky & spicy with a pleasantly sweet creamy toffee character culminating in soft chewy leather, tobacco & cedar wood.
