Ardbeg Ardbeg Distillery was established in Ardbeg on the Kildalton Peninsular on the Isle of Islay in 1815 by John Mc Dougal. Ardbeg Distillery draws soft peaty water from Loch Uigeadail & Loch Airigh nam Beist up amongst the hills behind the distillery. Ardbeg Distillery is a participant in the world famous Feis Ile, the annual Islay Festival of Malt & Music. Visitors are welcome at the distillery visitor center which offers Ardbeg Distillery tours & serves delicious Scottish fare in the Ardbeg Cafe. Initially we have a subtle Islay nose – which warms sweetly to citrus, smoke & salty rock pools in summer. Palatewise it starts saline & dry but held there – the phenols develop plus an interesting (tongue tingling) sprinkle of salt & sweet drifting smoke. The long finish is smokier again – with tar, cinders, oily rags & ash much in evidence – with a great length to it.
